I am trying to find a hosting service for my various business and personal web sites. For several of them the primary goal is provide a stable and reliable email platform. i.e. I want to set up "somename@mydomain.com" e-mails. I have several sites hosted at a competitor using a shared hosting plan and I'm having trouble.  When users try and connect to their e-mail via POP3 they have to turn SSL off or they get a message stating the security certificate doesn't match the domain. But the server won't accept outgoing mail without SSL so incoming has SSL off and outgoing as it on and displays the security warning. Very annoying and unprofessional.  My current hosting service was unable to provide any solution other than to tell me I needed a dedicated host PER DOMAIN.
What would my options be with LunarPages? I have no problem with moving some domains to dedicated hosting in the future, but I am at this point still just evaluating services and would like to know what I could do with the basic hosting solution. I have no problem with getting a dedicated IP for the shared hosting if that fixes the problem.

Thanks.

Welcome to Lunarpages, that sounds like a very odd situation you are moving away from.  One would think that they would tell you how to fix the problem instead of point you towards getting more hosting.  Was there anything specific or odd about your e-mail setup that you needed to make sure that was covered?

This may help some:

I hope that helps and if there is anything else we can do for you please feel free to let us know.  We are here to help with anything else you might need.  Thank you for your time.

Thanks Mitch,

So just to make sure I've got this straight.
With Shared hosting I need can either 1) point at the shared host server (whatever.lunarpages.com) , use SSL and POP3/IMAP/SMTP or point at "mail.mydomain.com" and use POP3/IMAP/SMTP but without SSL.

At what point in the food chain am I able to point at "mail.mydomain.com" and use SSL with POP3/IMAP/SMTP? Does that require Dedicated Hosting or can it be accomplished with Virtual Private Servers?

Also, how does the reseller account change this picture? If I am reselling Shared Hosting, then my customers would have to point their mail to "mail.mydomain.com" to use SSL not their own domain?

Thanks again
