I am currently using Media Temple's grid-service, but typically I am exceeding the maximum GPU allotment and the overages add up to cost MORE than a virtual private server. And since it's shared, I don't see the point in staying, not to mention Media Temple's support times range from 5-48 hours.

I am thinking of moving to the Linux VPS: http://www.lunarpages.com/virtual-private-server/

However, I already own a domain and I want every link to remain the same (http://dbthemovie.com. It uses wordpress so http://dbthemovie.com/06/04/sample-post, I would like to be exactly the same).

My questions are:
1) What are the CPUs you use? If I can use *up to* 2000 GPUs (which is apparently 20% of one processor core for one month), will the Linux VPS suit my CPU needs?
2) Is there any help available for people who have never moved a site before?... (like me).
3) What is the "burst ram" I notice it has 512 MB of ram, would that be 1 GB or 2 GB of ram during heavy traffic?
4) Is there an option for you to monitor the server for me?

Thanks!

Good afternoon,

Here are the answers to the questions that you requested:

1.)   We use dual intel xeon processors, it is going to support what you are looking for, however you are still on a shared machine, I would suggest the dedicated I as you will not have those issues you are currently facing.
2.) We can always help you with basic questions, we can do the site move for $75/hr
3.) It is a shared machine ram is distributed based on need, meaning at most during heavy traffic you will be able to get 512mb of ram, if you definitely need more ram than a dedicated server may be your best option considering it is scalable and you can always upgrade ram4.) managed 4.) Yes for the VPS plan we offer Managed Hosting Lite, that is 9.95 per month

Please let me know if you have any further questions and I will be more than happy to assist you. In fact if you’d like more information you are welcome to call our sales dept and ask for me.

Have a wonderful Weekend,

Jennifer

How many people share a VPS?
75/hr and you move everything? how long does it usually take? (I don't think I have more than 5-10 GB of data, and I have 1 database for wordpress and 1 database for a gallery).

What does the managed lite mean? What's the difference between that and no managed?

I don't want to buy a dedicated server.

Hello,

1. There are 20 customers that are sharing the VPS Server with you.

2. Yes, it is a $75 per hour charge if you'd like us to move over the site for you. You can also do it yourself if you'd like and their is no charge for that. If we transfered that data for you, it would take a few hours depending on the coding and if there were any issues with it.

3. Managed hosting means that the techs that are in our data centers will monitor your server for you 24/7/365 days a week. They will make sure you don't have any alerts and if anything comes up we will be able to notify you and fix the problem. Where as unmanaged, we will not receive the alerts when something goes wrong.

Okay thank you. Do you think I have enough CPU resources If I use up to 2000 GPUs on Media Temple?

Also, does the moving process go like this:
1) Back-up databases
2) Import databases somehow
3) Upload all files via FTP
4) Change database names/users/passwords in wp-config.php (wordpress) and for phpbb3, coppermine photogallery
5) Once everything works, change name servers from NS1.mediatemple.net to your server? Then all links should remain the same if I uploaded everything right?

Sorry for the trouble.

If you'd like to use the Linux VPS server then you are more than welcome to. I would definitely recommend the dedicated 1 server over the VPS, because of the additional resources, but you can use the VPS as your solution if you'd like. (i know you mentioned that you didn't want to have a dedicated server earlier).

Yes that is the process, you will be responsible for backing up your site.

If you'd like more information about FTPing your information you are welcome to check out our online tutorials that can walk you through how to move over your files: http://www.lunarpages.com/tutorials/
