Hiya Hi, I have read a few complaints about accounts being suspended because of over 1% cpu usage.  I assume this is from lots of scripts or script bugs.  I don't know anything about php or mysql anything like that, but I want to build a Flash site which may have a lot of actionscripting and I'm wondering if that would be an issue.  Does Lunarpages even support Actionscript 3?  Is that even a valid question?  I don't know if actionscript is something that requires host/server support or if it's just part of the flash file or something.  I'm sorry if that sounds dumb, but I don't know much about either hosting or Flash yet.  My site will just use html and css for a while until I learn Flash, and it's just a personal site, so I don't really expect any traffic (but who knows? Very Happy).

edit2: i'm looking at the basic plan, by the way

edit: Yay for my first post... Clapping

Do you have any specific stats on what they told you other than being over the CPU limit?  You may be able to try things out on the Basic hosting plan (or any of the other plans) but if CPU limits become a problem you would really need to look into VPS or Dedicated hosting solutions.

No specific stats, and I'm not really concerned about the complaints because I don't think I'll be be using any server-side scripting.  The main question I had was whether Lunarpages could host a site that uses Actionscript 3, but I did some research and discovered that AS3 is indeed not a server-side language like PHP, so I assume it won't be an issue for your servers, right?  Confused

Just FYI, here is an excerpt from two of the reviews I'm talking about:

"...Now my account is suspended because I'm using too much CPU, which isn't anywhere to be found in their terms of service or contract. I got a lame response that usage over 1% is defined as an act that's harmful to their server so they have the right to shut my site down. ..."

"...The reason is because you are only allowed to use 1% CPU and I was using 3%, with "200-300 allowed per server". My site only has text and small jpgs, and I access MySQL about 6 times per minute with my simplemachines forum...."

(from webhostinggeeks.com/user-reviews/index2.php?item_id=7 - pages 3 and 4)

Again, I won't be using scripts (only html, css, and flash) and don't expect much traffic (maybe a few visitors a day if I'm lucky), but I will have a Flash site with pictures and a few streaming Flash videos as part of my online portfolio.

Well going over the hosting space limits are not related to disk space or how many people are viewing (or bandwidth).  It is usually related to bad or out of date scripts.  With actionscript, that sort of things is handled on the end users side and not the server side.  As long as your viewers had the most recent updates to support it you would not have an issue.
