Hi,
I was wondering how to setup an imap account. I can't find it anywhere in the control panel. I setup an email account, but can't use it as imap.

Another question I have is currently one of my domains is hosted/managed by namesdirect.com. There I have my email forwarded to a diffrent account. Am I right in assuming that when if I change the nameserver over to lunarpages that lunarpages will control my email ?? Thanks

When you change your domain over, lunarpages will control your e-mail. It is possible to get your e-mail sent to somewhere else by forwarding it.
If you like, you can use a different mail server by changing the "MX entry" in CPanel. This is really for advanced users. If you need more information, just ask.

As for your IMAP question, I suppose the server names for the imap server is the same as the pop3.
I haven't tried using it.

I have a friend who's site is hosted on lunarpages and I setup an email account through him. When I try to login under imap it will not let me. If I set the server to pop3 then it works fine. I also tried imap.domainname.com and it came back with server not found. Having imap is the only thing holding me back from switching over to you guys, that and the speed of your imap, which is what I'm trying to test now. Please let me know how to setup an imap account or more info on why it is not working. Thanks

Although I have seen the word 'IMAP' a lot but I only figure it out few minutes ago. It makes everything clear when I read this - http://www.imap.org/about/whatisIMAP.htmlFrom my experience, LunarPages doesn't support IMAP. And I think majority of the web hosts also don't support it. But I am only guessing here and some one from LunarPages still need to confirm on this. |

Ya, I did a search on these forums and found the administrators saying they don't have it, and then about a week later saying they did support imap??? I'm not sure why more hosts don't support it, as it is far better than pop3.

Stephen, I tried setting it up using mail.domain.com ( with my friends account on lunar pages) and it only works under pop - not imap. Should i email support??

It turned out that I was using name+domain.com for the username, which was working on pop but not imap. LP told me to use name@domain.com for the username, which works fine. |

Wow, I just tried out for the first time in life IMAP mail. But it is just too slow isn't it? The benefit is if you want to access your mail from several place, it is good. And I feel like it is some kind of using hotmail from outlook.

There are 3 things that will determine you speed on imap.
1. Your connection, I have never liked using imap on dialup, too slow for me.
2. Server, Lunarpages, seems to be up to par, but have not done any real testing yet.
3. It also makes a diffrence what email client you use. Outlook does not have the best imap support. Outlook Express has pretty good support only by default it downloads all headers from all folders, which makes it take 10 times longer to check you mail, this can be turned off in the options. Mozilla/Netscape and Eudora have the best imap support IMHO.
Another good thing is you can access all you mail from webmail if you use imap.

I am using Eudora (Outlook Sucks) since years back with my DSL. But maybe I am cursed to use POP so I am not getting to IMAP so soon.
Actually you can also check your POP-MAIL in web mail but BEFORE you download them to your email client. haha.
