Hi!

I want to make a website where it will have a music playlist playing greek music.
The main idea of this site would be this, just loading the xspf player and playing music.
So , i need to upload the music files.
I would like to know if i can upload these music files to my lunarpages account.
Please note that these files are only for playback, and not for downloading them.
So nobody wouldn't know the path of the mp3 playing at the playlist(except for me)
Finally for best protection i would put a "Forbidden" when somebody tries to enter the url of the folder with mp3.
Also is there any possibility to stop downloading when somebody tries to download the file knowing the full url?(ex. ../music/music.mp3)
Can i upload them at my account,or they will delete my account??

Sounds like an interesting project you have there, but the big question will be do you own the copyright or have permission from the copyright owners to share the music?

well, maybe not but i would not offer them for download.
Just listen to them. For example while you browse at the internet, you can listen to music.
Like a radio...
I know what you mean, and i already have thought it , but...it would be just for listening.

Afraid you wouldn't be able to do it due to the DMCA.  You are not allowed to share copyrighted materials in this way without permission.

Now as an alternative idea, maybe you stay clear of the people who have copyrighted content (sorry, I don't know who the big names are in greek music these days) and go see if you can find some independent artists you could feature.  Contact them by e-mail or by phone (whatever you can get) and tell them you have a cool idea for a web site, you'd like to stream their music, give them some free press and all you ask for is permission to play the music.  This would be better way to go in my opinion.

hm..i understand what you mean...
then it will be impossible to do it.. Sad (who big artist would authorize for playing his music at web free)
i guess i have to remain to temporarly solutions like the gcast that i use now(i own this) or wixi, but i should be afraid if they delete my files, because it will take time to reupload (with a connection 1024/256 kbps)....

thanks for your reply!

Sorry, when you talk about playing Greek music, the first thing to come to mind was the "Cheese Shop" skit from Monty Python's Flying Circus ! I think it was Greek...

Anyway, regardless of copyright issues, keep in mind that someone who is determined to grab a copy of that music will probably be able to do so if they work hard enough at it (poking around in the browser cache, etc.). With enough effort, even streamed content could be captured, I would think. At some point, the data has to pass through the browser and be processed, and is thus vulnerable to capture. You can make it difficult  to capture content to be saved, but I doubt that you can make it impossible.

Why did that came at your mind??

well,i haven't understand exactly what you mean....
can you tell it simpler?

finally,i have thought something else.visitors can give me the playlist files with links to their music,so i can make
playlists with recent and top music of their country. So when somebody goes to my homepage he can select which country's music to listen to.
i think it would be great project...

Might just make sure that you walk the fine line and perhaps read over the DMCA, and the Lunarpages TOS and AUP.  As long as you are not promoting the sharing or downloading of copyrighted material you should be ok.  Playing on the other side though (going back to your first idea) would not only get you canceled from here but also may get a team of lawyers from the record industries coming your way.  I think it is a great idea, but you'll need to spend some time looking into the legalities of it all.
