Greetings!
I am looking for a new host for my band's website in the next couple of weeks. My current host has given us a ton of problems in our five years with them, but it has gotten worse with their recent platform migration. Granted, reliability has seemingly improved, which was the biggest problem, especially with our email, but I can no longer directly upload music files from the online control panel. Even when I uploaded a single MP3 using FTP (which was a pain), it worked when I typed a direct link but didn't show up in the public_html directory, so I couldn't move it. They specifically have a problem with MP3 files, calling them a security risk. This is a problem for a band, who wants to be able to upload their songs from time to time in the most popular format. I gather from perusing the Lunarpages FAQs and sites that LP is more music friendly, but I want to be sure: can I upload an MP3 file from the control panel, and will I have any problem accessing it? Are there any issues with MP3s I should know about?
I noticed in the feature list for the Basic package (we just need reliable email and a small website with a few cool features) that streaming audio and video are supported; I'm just wondering if LP provides any particular tools or services for this, or simply allows for streaming MP3/ RealPlayer kinds of formats?
Specifically, I came across this in the tutorial section for personal webhosting, and I'd love to know what the jukeboxes are? "Express Yourself. Photographers, artists, poets, writers, musicians – this is your chance for fame, community, and even a profit! While it can sometimes be incredibly difficult to get the exposure you want for the amount of creative work you do, Lunarpages has the tools that get your presence out there and online. For graphic artists, we have gallery options and blogs to help you keep in touch with your customers and viewers; for musicians, we have web jukeboxes and shopping carts to listen and sell your music; and for poets and writers, we have templates <http://personalwebhosting.lunarpages.com/to%20http://www.pagemason.com> to show off your compositions and mailing lists to keep your readers updated on your progress and latest publications/readings. A website can be a great stepping stone to future success or at least a way to put yourself out there and be seen. Blogs and forums are always getting crawled by Google’s spiders, so they’re a valuable resource for publicity and branding."
I'm sure I'll have a few more questions as I make the move, but these are up there for a music site, so thanks in advance for any help!
