I'm trying to setup an online store with a friend and we recently made the plunge and bought the domain and a year's account with a competitor's service.  Unfortunately, this provider recently enacted a cap on MySQL access and it has made it impossible for me to use them for my store now.  Their limitations on MySQL access are:

3 Users
18,000 queries per hour per user
1,200 connections per hour

The 18000 queries per hour per user is the problem and a lot of people using this provider with shopping carts and BBs are now out of luck because their sites are always down because of the mySQL caps.

So my question is this:

Does Lunar Pages have a similar cap?  If so, what is it?  I'm not expecting unlimited resources obviously, but this recent change has angered a lot of people because it's simply too restrictive and they now have to find an alternative, and I'm one of them.  Our shop is going to be quite small and probably isn't ever going to be huge, but we hope to have room for some growth.

Also, the software I'm using is Squirrelcart, a PHP/MySQL driven shopping cart. Is this package allowed on LunarPages?  Thanks.

Hey, I know who you mean - $7.77 Free 2 Months!  "[Big

Only MySQL 4.0 can set this kind of limitation. That's why they quickly update to it. LunarPages still using MySQL 3.2x, so even if they want to set this kind of limitations, they can't!  "[Wink]"

I don't personally think they will set up similar limitations even in the future. Just see how they are going to say on this.

Should that ever happen here, which I don't think that it will, I will certainly leave, and I can understand you wanting to leave your current host.

I think here, the only limitations are by default within mysql, so I don't think you'll have any problems at all, but I'm sure Max or Stephan will give you the exact details that you're looking for.

To get the actual figures, please e-mail support@lunarpages.com

I don't know them myself.

When you find out, please write them here so everyone can see.

It would be nice to know if there is a cap, and what it is if there is one. So, does anyone know that information yet?
Max, maybe you could enlighten us.
Thanks

This is the reply I received from support@lunarpages.com:

----------

We have some restictions on mysql.

There is a maximum number of 50 connections per mysql user and 1500
connections per server.

We do not have a per hour restriction.

Each user is allowed 50 connections at once, and there can be 1500 connections per server at any one time.

Are you still confused?

As Bloodwright mentioned in the 1st post that  the competitor allows 3 users per mySQL database, how many does Lunar allow?  Thanks.

If I remember correctly, not too long ago the connections allowed per user was 100, which was the max connections allowed by mysql, I believe.

So, if you have more then 50 people trying to acces your site at one time, until the connections drop below 50, vistors will get an error message and not be able to gain access to your site.

Just curious, why the cut from 100 to 50?

Ok, I found the post, and I thought I had asked before signing up, and it was 100 then, but they have taketh away 1\2 of that.

Heres the link:Post regarding the amount of connection allowed per user.

Hi all:

From the previous posts, it looks to me that the limit is 50 simultaneous mysql connections (if using resin JSP/servlets, you may be able to pool connections - not sure if this is the case here yet tho).

I have a couple questions if anyone can help answer:

#1 Is this limit for the standard plan, premium plan, or both?

#2 Is this limit per "hosted domain" with LunarPages?  In other words, if we put several clients on board each with their own "hosted domain", does each client have this limit?  (e.g. client1 domain 1 gets 50 connections, client 2 domain 2 gets 50 connections)...

Thanks everyone for your help!

Dave :-)

You have to take into consideration that the cap per shared server is 1500, which could bring the 50 cap per user well under that.

Thanks who  "[Wink]"

I saw that 1500 per server limit somewhere else as well ... I'm just trying to get an idea on mysql issues here...

One of our current apps is php/mysql, but we will be migrating it over to java/jsp/mysql and connection pooling, which we believe should help in this area...
