good idea Max, i wonder how much bandwidth that will use quite a bit if everyone tested the 100mg like me  i got 60k p/s which is about my ISP limit, so apart from paying for me to upgrade my internet, thats perfect for me  |

I got about 420kb/s here at home with my 4mbit Adelphia cable connection Whee, I maxxed out the connection |

with the 10MB file, rates dropped to about 420KB/s before it ended (started out higher), with the 50 & 100MB they dropped and levelled off around 365KB/s... (I didn't bother finishing the 100 though because it stayed constant long enough I felt comfortable with it...)

It usually always levels out after a moment. Thats why I put up the larger files, so you guys and gals can really test |

Not too shabby. The 50mb file averaged almost 560kps. I have cable internet access through Videotron.ca. Incidently, when uploading large files to my site (average size 20mb) my upload speed averages 75-80kps. I do like my cable provider.  ...jim |

I'm on a cable connection (roadrunner)
I did the 5MB and 10MB files...both hovered at 170-175 after they leveled off.
Is this good for a cable connection?

pretty decent.
average depending on a few things..
1. location of yourself in relation to the server.
2. location of yourself to nearest ISP hub
3. # of other customers on that hub on at the same time.
4. # of hops between yourself and the server.
5. processor, and Harddrive speeds (minor in most cases, however there very noticeable differences can occur between a Pentium II 350MHz/256 SDRAM and a Pentium 4 2.8GHz/1Gb DDR in relation to download speeds obtained)
6. processes running on the system at the same time.
There are other factors as well, however, question is what is your Cable connection speed set to at Maximum by the provider?
Mine is now a 5Mbps down, but I used to be on 384 Kbps cable.

jackso7, not a problem Just for information's sake. On the old 384 Kbps connection. I used to average 120 - 180 k/s down most times with my PII. Then upgraded to the new P4 and things improved to averaging anywhere from 140 - 340 k/s down. with the same P4 and my new 5Mbps connection, I'm getting anywhere from 380 - 700k/s down. A lovely change For these specific ones, I'll have to check and let ya know. - Jay

I only get 164 kByte/sec here for the 100 Mb file on my 8 Mbps down / 1 Mbps up cable internet EURO-DOCSIS connection, at other sites (also US ones, I am in the Netherlands by the way) I easily get download rates over 800 kByte/sec with 1.000 kByte.sec at some sites.
When I use Download Accelerator Plus using the 100 Mb file I got an average transfer rate of 935.2 kByte/sec, so the connection as such is more than OK.
What can cause this huge difference?
