Hello! I have a domain and hosting account with Lunarpages, and I'm trying to add on a domain for my friend. She had already registered her domain with Yahoo/AT&T, so now I'm trying to change the nameservers. The problem is, I have no idea what to change the nameservers to! I tried doing a search on the forum but couldn't find anything to help me. Any chance someone could walk me through this? Thank you very much!!

XOXO

You would go to cPanel > Addon Domains manager and add the new domain (allow it to create the top level folder for you). Change the DNS entry for the new domain name to point to the same nameservers as your account's primary domain uses (e.g., NS1.lunarpages.com and NS2.lunarpages.com). It will take up to 72 hours for the changes to propagate. Put content in the add-on and you're on your way.

Note: make sure that you are not violating the Terms of Service / Acceptable Use Policy by "adding a domain for a friend". You can only have your own  sites under your account. You can't "subhost" someone else's site.

MrPhil is right, if you are on a shared hosting plan (Basic, Business or Windows) you can not host a friend's web site by charging them or giving them the space for free.  That would be a violation of the Acceptable Use Policy, and you would risk the chance of getting your hosting account terminated.

I'm not charging her, and I wasn't aware there is a problem with me putting it up for free. It was more about ease for me, because I'm running it for her. She doesn't know anything about designing a website. She doesn't even have access to anything on my account. Is it still a problem if I'm the one running it? She just tells me how she wants it to look and what to put on it. I really didn't know that was a problem. I feel really silly/embarrassed now.  Confused
In any case, thank you very much for the help.

XOXO

EDIT: I just went through and read the Terms Of Service & Acceptable Use policy. Please understand that I am not being ornery in any way, shape, or form (I know it can be very difficult to judge tone on the internet), I am just genuinely trying to figure out what is going on. It seems to me that the problem would enter if I had given her access to the server. I haven't at all. She has no clue how to log in/use an FTP program/do anything web design related. Since I haven't done this, is what I'm doing okay? Please let me know. I have yet to add her domain, and I don't wish to do anything to put my website in jeopardy. If it is still deemed unacceptable, I definitely won't do it. I'm very sorry about this whole mess.

I would wait on the official word. But, if you "run" the site, design it, update it, etc. I believe that puts you as pretty much the "owner" of the site.

Yeah, there is a fine line there you are probably sitting right on top of right now.  This is the part of the AUP that should be checked into:

Quote
You agree that the Lunarpages servers including the space occupied by your account is and remains the property of Lunarpages. Your limited license to use the service is not subject to lease, sublease or any other sharing or transfer without the specific, express consent of Lunarpages. You may not make your account (including but not limited to web space, email accounts, bandwidth, storage space, or reseller rights) available to any third party in any way, including but not limited to the use of Sub Domains, Add-on Domains, Sub Directories, or by any other means.

I would suggest contacting support@lunarpages.com if you wanted somebody to review the situation, details and give you an official ruling on the issue.

Thank you for the response. I don't need to contact Lunarpages, I'm just going to tell my friend today that she needs to find a hosting company. I will suggest Lunarpages though. Again, thank you for your tremendous help.  Applause

If you use your affiliate account, you might be able to make a little cash when/or if you friend does sign up.  Just one more idea to check into if they do sign up for their own hosting package here:
