I know how to make backups in cPanel, how to FTP them etc.

Put the problem is, if I choose a "full directory" backup from cPanel, or make a full backup and download from cPanel, it transfers really slow. Around 20-30kB/s, but I download from my site at 180kB/s-220kB/s. Is there anyway to http download it? If i try to FTP, I either get a 403 Access Denied OR, it times out after about 50 meg has transfered, and the speed still isn't that great.

Would support be able to make a backup file in the public_html folder, where I could download it over the browser?

EDIT:
I should also add, I use to FTP it to a friends server, then browser download. That worked fine, but he has since let his server go... I even tried FTP'ing to one of my addon domains, and when I try a browser download I get 403 Forbidden(i would link, but incase something happened and it worked, i dont want all of my sites available for download like that).

EDIT2: Im on the shared linux server.
