Hi, I just noticed that folder 'manual' redirects to apache manual. I am assuming it's one of those default values, but is there are any way (perhaps using .htaccess) to point into your own 'manual' folder.

Here is more precise description:

I have folder in the root http://www.mydomain.com/manual/. There are a number of files manual.htm, index.htm, etc. When I try to open http://www.mydomain.com/manual/manual.htm I get 404 error. If I try to open http://www.mydomain.com/manual/, which should point to my index.htm I get Apache manual. This works with any linux shared hosting domains at LP.

I know that the easiest way would be just to change my folder name to something else and change the links. However, I just trasferred to my hosting a website that was build 8 years ago, and person that design it, didn't really do a good job. Manual is a main menu item, and if I change the link I will have to go through all the pages and modify it.

If anyone had similar problem, please let me know the solution.

Thank you in advance.

Might drop a line to support@lunarpages.com to get more information about this issue, but yes there are some names that couldn't be used due to conflicts with how the hosting account is setup.  Don't have an exact list but it would be a good one to have posted somewhere.  I'll see what I can find out. The same holds true for the /icons/ folder.  http://www.mydomain.com/icons/ will display a list of the files in the Apache icons folder.  I noticed in my logs that someone had successfuly retrieved a gif image from that folder even though I have hotlink prohibiting that.

Yea these are default apache folders that are set in the apache configuration.
The icons folder is needed by apache for directory listings and the manual folder is just a manual.

The icons folder could be changed to some weird name if the default error pages are altered to hold true for the new image paths.
The manual folder could be removed as most people don't read the manual Not Me

I removed the manual entry on my dedicated server but left the icons alone. I kinda setup my server to not speak a word about what version of what it was using (even though it makes no difference in terms of security, I just didn't want it sending all those useless headers) so I removed the manual to prevent it from telling.
