I gave up on the pretty URLs for now, the installation script installed wiki as runnung with ugly urls. But the system is just not responding *at all*. The script is on http://wikipedia.sourceforge.net/It's live on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_PageIt's a really cool thing - I love wikis, and this is the wiki of wikis!  |

Yes, I guess it is... And vandalism is problem, but not as much as one would think. People who vandalize are baned by IP number and their changes are easely removed. Besides people donīt realy enjoy doing it when itīs so easy anyone can do it. But sure, It's a problem. But the upside is huge also - so many people helping to improve content leeds to good content. And several wikisites have grown very popular, both in many niche areas and in the mainstream as with wikipedia.

Thank you so much everybod for all the help! Guess what. The script is up and running. Planning on installing mediawiki on Lunarpages and are having problems? Ask the "expert", well at least I think I know how to set it up now - did a sucessfull install of mediawiki 1.3.7 today!  With pretty URLs and all!!! lunar is the best!  |

Well now it's my turn.
I'm attempting to install MediaWiki 1.8.2. Has a walkthrough been established for this yet? Or a FAQs section? Given the ever-increasing popularity of wikis, I'd think it would it be a no-brainer to have such a section. The alternative is spending hours and hours searching through forums, mediawiki help pages, etc. etc., and that's time I just don't have. It'd be nice if Lunarpages had this covered beforehand, so all one needs to do is follow the steps for installation.
Any help from the experts?

Sasoriza, What issue(s) are you experiencing when trying to install Mediawiki? When I type in mywebsiteaddress/wiki, I get the message: "Please set up the wiki first". I click on that and get the message "PHP 5.0.0 or higher is required. ABORTING." I uploaded php-5.2.0 to my root directory to see if that would make a difference, and apparently it doesn't, as I still get the same message. |

It looks like Mediawiki required PHP 5 as explained at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/InstallationYou will need to contact support in order to have your account moved to a server with PHP 5 available. |

I moved my account to a PHP 5 server and started setting up the wiki. However, now when I type in the address, it takes me back to the setup page again (the one I described above, with the link), and if I click on that, it of course wants to set it up again (message: "Environment checked. You can install MediaWiki."). I've created wikidb in MySQL w/a user, I renamed mediawiki-1.8.2 to folder wiki... What am I missing? Do I need to set up certain tables in wikidb manually? Isn't there something that needs to be done to php.ini?
Also, I seem to be missing LocalSettings.php in the config folder (and it hasn't been moved to the root folder yet). Is this part of the problem?
This is why I really wish there was a more in-depth walkthrough beyond the MediaWiki Installation Help page, which only covers the broad strokes.
