I haven't had to use PLESK in a long time, but now I'm setting up a new domain, and finding PLESK to be unuseably slow.  I'm waiting up to 2 minutes for each new page.  Are other people having this experience on a regular basis?

Not much we could do to help you troubleshoot this via the forums, but you might want to contact support@lunarpages.com about this issue.

I contacted tech support yesterday and so far have heard nothing.  I just tried to open PLESK and gave up after 2 minutes with no page.

At this point I am unable to administer my domains and if LunarPages can't resolve this, I will have to move them immediately to another hosting company.

What I want to know is - are other people having this same problem? If so I can't believe I'm the only person who finds this unacceptable.

For at least the last 24 hours, PLESK has been unuseably slow, or completely dead. Tech support told me at one pointed it had been fixed; I am seeing no improvement.

Surely some other people on Windows Hosting plans must be using PLESK.  Are others having the same problem?

Is there any other way to adminster my domains, besides PLESK?

I don't know if this will apply to PLESK, but with cPanel, the default way to get in is to use https://account.lunarpages.com. https can be quite slow, and I don't know if access is slowed down by bouncing between several machines. It's much faster to use http://www.yoursite.com/cpanel, and possibly there's some way to do this with PLESK. Just be aware that your data stream is not encrypted, so don't display or enter sensitive information if you can get in this way.

I just tried it again an this time it worked, but only for a few minutes. During that time page access was normal. Then, it went into slow motion again. At the moment, I can't even get the initial page, I get this:

ERROR: PleskFatalException
Client Id is undefined.

0: D:\Program Files\SWsoft\Plesk\admin\plib\common_func.php3:152
   psaerror(string 'Client Id is undefined.')
1: D:\Program Files\SWsoft\Plesk\admin\auto_prepend\auth.php3:308

So I am still unable to do anything with my domains, going into the second day now.

I have merged your two Plesk threads together here.  Please make sure you do not create more than one thread per topic as it makes it harder for our moderators, members and helpful fellow users to track what advice you have been given.

I would suggest passing this error message back to support to see if they can help you with this issue.

The reason I created the other thread, in the Windows hosting forum, was that I wanted to get in touch with other Windows Hosting users and see if they're also having problems with PLESK, since no one is replying on this thread.

"Tracking" is great, I appreciate it , but I also need a resolution of my problem (which continues today).

Could you give me your help desk ticket number so I can see what has been done on support's side of things?  Thanks!

785922

I got an email from them this morning saying PLESK was working normally when they tried it.

For me now, it is up and down, and mostly down.  Occassionally I'll get a few pages fairly quickly - then click on another link, and maybe wait 2 minutes, or get nothing.   I've tried Firefox, Opra and IE, cleared cache, dumped cookies, checked ping times, tracert, and also hopped around the room on one foot.  I have no problems with any other pages on LP, with my own site, or any other sites.

What I would like Support to do is to try accessing my account via PLESK, instead of their own "test" accounts.  PLESK obviously uses a database, and maybe the database has gotten too large, needs compacting or cleanup - and maybe newer accounts, with rows way at the ends of the tables, get much longer access times. Well it's an idea anyway.

Attached is a screen capture of an error page I just got from PLESK, after a delay of about a minute.  This is obviously a server-side error.

I am having the same issues.  Plesk has always been slow on Lunarpages.  I couldn't believe how slow it was when I first moved my hosting here from another provider, but now it's practically unusable most of the time.  Last night I was waiting 2-3 minutes per click.  Which is ridiculous when trying to traverse directories with the File Manager tool.  This morning it was running great, only a second or two between clicks.  But then again this afternoon I got on and it's 2 minutes per click again.  I agree that it's absolutely unacceptable, but I don't think that Lunarpages will do anything about it, they've got your money.  Notice that their sales pages fly!  Anyway, I think they know how much trouble it is to migrate to another provider, and there are so many bad ones that it's hard to find one worth using.  I guess we just have to put up with it, because I don't see them rushing to fix it, they don't care.  Windows hosting probably doesn't make them as much money as their Linux plans.

Disgusted (but helpless),

Thomas, the only reply I ever got from the LP help desk was "it's fine, we don't see a problem".  Some days it works, some days it doesn't.  Even when it "works" it's frustratingly slow.

Fortunately I don't need to use Plesk very often.  What's worse, for me, is the Horde webmail application - I do use it often, or at least I'd like to, but some days it takes minutes just to get the logon page, and reading mail is torture.

Unfortunately when choosing a hosting company you're not able to test-drive their site administration or webmail applications.

My sites are on a Windows server and I wonder if that's part of the problem. Are your sites on Windows or Linux?

Windows.  I think part of the problem is that they're putting too many sites per server and the admin tools (like Plesk, etc.) are having to fight for CPU time with a thousand web sites.  It's a shady industry and unfortunately unless you can afford dedicated hosting there's not much you can do about it.  Still Lunarpages has a decent reputation, but that's not saying much considering the industry.  And perhaps their reputation is based more on their Linux hosting.  I don't know.  It's funny, but I was actually thinking for a little while after I posted my above reply that someone from Lunarpages might actually read what I wrote and write back with something, maybe even a "how can we make it right?  Let's work with you to make sure you're satisfied with your service."  LOL.

Well, they did respond to my tickets, but never acknowledged a problem. They said they were seeing normal page access times for Plesk, so I thought there might be a problem accessing my account - for example, maybe newer accounts aren't indexed in the database, or are on a different db server somewhere.  I believe someone did reply that they had looked at my account with Plesk and still not seen a problem.  I told them I'd seen the same slow response on 3 different browsers, 2 computers and 2 ISPs.  I also sent them screen captures showing that the Plesk application was in trouble. You might think that seeing "ERROR: PleskFatalException" would be a pretty good clue that the problem was not on my end...  still no acknowledgement of anything wrong.

In retrospect, I probably should have gone to one of the hosting companies that specializes in ASP.NET.  I get the feeling that Windows hosting at LP is an afterthought.
