What's the difference between a dash - and a hyphen -? Did you mean underscore _?
There's no big difference between a dash & a hyphen, but a hyphen(--) is used to join two or more words together and a dash (-) separates words in statement. It's better to use dash or hyphen rather than underscore in URL to make it SEO friendly.

The original poster mistakenly thought that "hyphen" was the name for an underscore (_). They were asking whether a dash (hyphen) - or an underscore _ was better to use. The answer is that search engines consider dashes to separate words, which should be considered separately, while underscores join words into single terms. Thus hot-coffee is treated as two words "hot" and "coffee", while hot_coffee is treated as a single term hot_coffee.
