I think a thing people need be aware of is that just because they start offering something for free will not mean that you will get a flood of business the next day. It takes time for the word to get out and while people may come for the freebies, hopefully they will find enough value in the products/services you sell to pay for them.

This is definitely a good idea but as with everything, you gotta keep at it to make it successful. E.g. if you start a blog and stop updating it just because you do not see the results as quickly as you like, if a visitor happens along your blog a few months later, they are more likely to click away as soon as they notice the date on the post.
