So was the OP trying to run a test server on a PC? Why couldn't they have said so at the beginning!

Well the OP never came back.

I think this is the "new" form of internet spams. (I could be wrong though...but SFS is saying multiple accounts are starting a trend as of last couple weeks where a "host" spam guy posts no spam, but an open ended question then each response houses spam links.

Just thought I'd give a heads up...and if this isn't the case OP, sorry but still should be said as you haven't returned to this thread.

SMF 2.0 has a number of available anti-spam mods in addition to the built-in CAPTCHA and Questions & Answers. The mods can be used to query 3rd party databases of known spammers. And of course, registrations can be held for administrator approval, and email response required to complete sign-up. CAPTCHA (and maybe Q&A -- I'm not sure) can be required for the first N postings.

The major limitation of Q&A is that there is no language selection -- your set of questions (and their answers) is the same for every language. There's a heated discussion going on about what to do about this. There are also discussions about what other anti-spambot measures could be taken, that won't disenfranchise the visually handicapped (e.g., "what time does this clock face show?"). All forms of CAPTCHA are acknowledged to be easily cracked by spammers.

SMF 2.1 is expected to be out within a few months (but don't hold your breath, either for its appearance or for Lunarforums to get updated).

I'm telling you. SFS is pretty amazing. Smile

An interface to SFS (Stop Forum Spam) is one of the mods I referred to. Even though it's noncommercial, please take care not to promote it so hard that you become a pest! Considering how often this forum gets updated, I would consider it nothing short of a miracle to get something like SFS installed.

Some people on the SMF forum complain that SFS gets too many false positives.

Ohh, I was just offering it up to help out that's all. I realized I kept saying it as "SFS" without describing it like it was common knowledge or something, that's all.

Log into cPanel.
Under Databases, click MySQL Databases.
In the New Database field, type a name for the database.
Click Create Database.
Click Go Back
