I would like to be able to show how many users are online. At the moment, I have a script but I need to have mySQL which isn't installed yet.

I have seen it done without a database (see )www.everysoft.com)  but that's in Perl!

Do you know where I could get a PHP (no database) script to do this? Or show me the basics of writing one!!

Thanks very much,

You could take the database part out of the script and convrite it to write to a text file.  see this http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.fwrite.php

that's the bit I'm stuck on

It needs to have the IP address of the visitor and a timestamp,

then it needs to delete the line that contains a timestamp which has been outdated by a minute.

So, I need to make a text file like this:

e.g.
(ip) (timestamp)

206.124.23.12 89384

I was thinking of using the unix timestamp.

How can I search the file and take out the lines of the outdated visitors.

Anyway! I think I'll just wait for the SQL!
