Plesk & database management tool
« on: March 27, 2008, 07:51:13 PM »
For some reason, I closed my original forum and planed to install a new 3-party application. (name: discuz!)

I have created a new Mysql database through Plesk but it connot work. When I install "discuz",it says "cannot connect the database, check the dbname and password."  I have checked my Mysql and password  and it seems no error.

I have test the application at another free web site and it works very well. I really have no idea what can I do to manage my Mysql through Plesk. May someone can give me some advices. Here are my questions:

1. My host is windows hosting.
    If lunarpages supports these softwares?
       a) httpd service(ex.  Apache、Zeus、IIS etc)
         b) php 4.1.0 or above  ----- I think this one is OK.
         c) Zend Optimizer 2.5.7 or above
         d) MySQL 3.23 or above -------> I think this one is OK.

2. How can I open  the Select/ update/ insert /delete/ create/alter/drop mode of my Mysql database from Plesk?

I guess it may something about the management of the Mysql database.

I really need some help. Please give me some directions. Thank you.

Hi Jessamine,

All your requirements are supported on our windows plans.

As for the MySQL management, there is phpMyAdmin available in Plesk that allows you to manage your database over the web.

Thank you. I am glad to "see" you again, because you are so nice.

I didin't find a phpMyAdmin tool on Plesk database section.
If any, there is one similar. The URL shows as .....phpmyadmin/index.htm on page tilte.(something like this.) Is this the right management page? But it is so difficult to handle,I cannot find a way to change my database access mod...etc., it even says that I have no privilege to creare table.
This one is more difficult than cpanel,I am confused.
Can you give me some advice?

AH,I think this is PhpMyadmin. I have one guestion. Should I learn SQL language for mysql database management? It's time spending for me. AH!

Hi,

Yes, it is PhpMyAdmin. SQL knoweledge is not required to do basic management in it, but it would be advisable to learn it if you need something more advanced. As an alternative to PHPMyAdmin, you can setup an MySQL management tool on your PC and connect to the server as admin with Plesk administrator password to be able to make all the modifications to the databases. I would recommend to still create users and databases via Plesk in this scenario as they won't be listed in it otherwise.

I hope this helps.

P.S. Thanks for your kind words.
Kind Regards,
