"Acquiring" and hosting a 3rd party domain
« on: January 22, 2008, 10:44:56 AM »
I'm looking at one or two specific domain names right now, which are currently owned by other people. Both names are very short, common names, and both sites are pretty much just small, personal websites. (I will obviously omit their names here for privacy reasons, but you get the picture.)

Now, I plan to "negotiate" with them and see if I can't simply buy this domain name from them, as it seems that their particular domain name(s) are not at all business-related, and it would simply be a matter of inconvenience for them to switch to another domain.

I already have a Lunarpages account, along with several registered domains, so transferring on this end would probably be easy. Its just that, when I make my sales pitch, I have no idea what I will say to actually initiate the transfer.

How does this work? I looked in Whois, and it appears that one of the sites is hosted with: *, and the other has nameservers at: *

Let's say they immediately agree to my offer, and then they ask, what do I need to do to finish this deal? What should I tell them? How does this whole process work? Will I be able to transfer everything over to you guys? Are certain companies harder to work with or negotiate with than others?

Thanks,
Eric

Once you get the ok from them, you could contact support to have them start the transfer process with you and as long as they had access and the ability to give you the "ok" when the request is sent to their whois domain name on record you should be ok.   :thumb:

So basically, all I need to do is send an email to support@lunarpages.com explaining the situation?

Just trying to avoid looking dumb here...  :-?

Yes, that would work.  :thumb:  If any other steps are needed they'd be more than happy to help.
