hi 008, from what i have seen from a lot of users in China is that they do sometimes tend to get fairly decent speeds, i have known for some to be moved to a different server which has increased the speeds, how quick can you access lunarforums.com? as this is hosted on an shared server, also have you tried the speedtest? www.lunarpages.com/speedtest this might give you an idea on speeds.

generally though, there isn't much lunarpages, nor any host could do as it's the 'great firewall of china' that slows down most sites.

Where are the majority of your readers (users) going to be located? If they're within the PRC, you might get better speed with a local provider. As mentioned above, the feed from LunarPages has to go through the Great Firewall of China, which seems to slow it down, not to mention that the servers are a whole ocean away. I don't know if content originating within China gets filtered, or only stuff coming in from the outside (I'm sure that the authorities are just as interested in keeping an eye on "undesirable" material originating within China). If you're serving many people outside the GFoC, especially in North America, then LunarPages could be a good choice. If local hosting services have a bad reputation on speed, service, and availability, or are much more expensive, you might go with LunarPages even if most of your readers will be within China. I'm not aware of any LP hosting plans that give you better speed than others -- if this is not correct, I'm sure someone will chime in.

Phil

I wonder if I add some "evil" content to this post it will be blocked?  :D F-G, T, T-S

I don't think it is the firewall, but really is your ISP. I can get 600KB constantly from Beijing but have had your problem with connection from Shanghai.
I think this problem is mainly caused by 2 major ISP in China firing on each other and both throttling opponentís bandwidth.

Tell you the reason I moved to Lunarpages, probably this one sounds ridicules. I used to have server in north part of China (Beijing) and since the 2 major ISPs start firing I got a huge amount complains from south China users says the speed was constantly low at 6-10KB, however I tested the speed from north China got over 1.6MB of downloading speed. Then I moved server to the south and guess what? I canít even access to my server. Since then I moved my server oversea and it seems solved all problem. North China constantly gets 600KB, South China constantly gets 500KB and HongKong even gets over 1100KB. The only place wired is Shanghai, I can only test up to 160KB. There might be some problem with device or other things.
