Control panel options
« on: December 14, 2011, 06:56:40 PM »
I currently have hosting plan here at LP, but am about to sign up a client on a basic plan. I was looking at the order form and I see that cPanel now cost extra per month to have (it was included when I signed up in 2004). What's the difference between the LPCP and cPanel? Is cPanel better (which may explain the cost now)?

cPanel is being phased out by LP, in favor of their home-grown LPCP. cPanel is a commercial 3rd party product, which is why it costs money, while LPCP was developed in-house and is free to LP. They do about the same thing. LPCP used to be lacking many features, but I guess it's comparable now (my account still has cPanel -- I've never used LPCP myself).

Will all existing LP customers eventually be switched to the new CP from LP?

They will do pretty much the same thing, but LPCP is moreso going to be more cost efficient for them, as to they won't need to pay an extra source for LICENSING on a renewal basis, thus saving themselves lots of money in the long run. Pending on what you are doing, they should do the same thing. cPanel is more favored because it's more known, but once you get the hang of the other, it shouldn't make mtoo much of a difference.

Hi Poptarted,

I think CPanel is not only well known in the market, they are well known because of their excellent and high end services they offer to their customers.
