DNS transfer and email routing
« on: July 18, 2005, 07:21:09 AM »
I am about to set up a Shuttle account, but I have a question before I do. As I will be using this account for business related email, it is very important for me to not lose email during the DNS transfer. Currently, my domain is hosted by my ISP, but their charges have become intolerable. As of now, my domain registrar points to my ISP's servers. I want to be sure that as the DNS servers realize the changes, no email gets bounced. The way I understand it, this shouldn't be a problem, since I can continue to receive the emails through the ISP until the nameservers are updated and can receive the emails through lunarpages as nameservers become aware of the changes. Am I correct, or do I need to make people aware of the switch so they can be watching for bounced emails?

Hi StevenNelson, Pete waves

Welcome to the LunarForums  :)

You've got it spot on.  :thumb:
Those not updated servers worldwide will still send email to your 'old' home,  and as they move across to knowing your hosted on LP they send the email to your new 'home'
Once your new DNS has globalised you can stop needing to use your ISP to receive your email.  :)

You could for extra safety notify people there might be a slight transitional period but its not really needed. :D
