MYSQL Connections
« on: January 28, 2003, 06:37:00 AM »
I am using a hosting service that is killing our web business.

Our site is primarily written in PHP, HTML and uses connections to a MYSQL database.

How many connections to a database, using your service can be opened at the same time?

Our database is quite small at this time (< 150k)

How many queries per hour can be run on a database before the server load is considered too high?

We are looking at the shared $7.25/month option.

Thank You

Paul.

I think the more important question is what is the value of the max_connections in MySQL.

I am interested to know what is the value for that.

It's a deciding factor in my shopping for a new host.

Thanks !

Hello,

We have set the maximum number of connects to 50 per user. And 1500 per server.

I was hoping for 100 but okey... sounds good !

and because of that critical information and because i've recently concluded my extensive research in finding the perfect and ideal host for my needs, I have just signed up with lunarpages.com, got the initial e-mail that my order has been received, am just waiting for the next e-mail with the account details and how to access the account.

I'm hoping to join the guys in the other forums afterwards. I do hope I have no regrets and will have a pleasant stay with lunarpages.com

Thanks !

Does "We have set the maximum number of connects to 50 per user. And 1500 per server."
mean the maximum number of 50 users online at onetime? And the maximum number of
1500 people browse your web at one time?

No.

50 mySQL connections can be made to the database server for each username simulataneously.

Each connection to a mySQL server is opened and closed extremely quickly anyway. You would need thousands of people to be online (on your website) at once for it to start becoming a problem.

1500 is just the limit for each server.

Basically, no, those numbers quoted were for the number of database connections possible at the same time, not the number of people who can browse your site at the same time.
