It is possible, however to make sure you have enough room and bandwidth to grow - you might look at the Basic hosting plan too (or at least as a possible upgrade option down the road).  As far as protection goes, could you give us a little more in specifics of what you are looking for and we'd be happy to answer that for you too.  Thanks!

I believe it uses the space of your hosting plan. You have 5GB on the starter plan, so your total website, graphics, mysql databases, email, etc. can not be larger then 5GB.

Just starting a forum, this limit should not be a problem unless you will post downloads for users to download.

Your database is only limited by the storage space of your plan no matter where you are. Bandwidth however... now that's another story.

Right, no real hard limit on the database size - other than the disk space on the hosting plan.  The starter plan is, as it is called, a place to get started.  If you outgrow it or need more, we have plenty of plans to upgrade to down the road, if you need it.

It does come with the ability to send out mailing lists/newsletters - and support for five e-mail accounts.

Hope that helps!  If there is anythign else we can do for you, please feel free to let us know.

Elaria, what you need to be aware of with a forum is that if someone should decide to link from busy site to an interesting thread, or if you should make an enemy, they can easily get your site suddenly shut down merely by running a script that keeps on loading a page.  This eventually exceeds your CPU allowance and gets you shut down until you remove your forum.

I do not recommend Lunarpages for public forums or other database/script based features, as they are particularly strict about CPU use and do not offer tools for monitoring your own CPU use.  On the other hand Lunarpages are fine for plain html pages and downloads, and for forums that are invite-only.

Yes, Inge does bring up a good point that system resource might play in as an issue later on down the road, however the Lunarpages team will be more than happy if this ever happens, to work with you to find a solution to the issue at hand, or help you plan for the best upgrade route - if you need it.   Thumbs Up

Good advice a VPS would probably be more suitable.

Well, not sure if I would go that far - the Starter hosting plan would be perfect for any new forum, just getting started.  If you outgrow the caps on the Starter plan, then the next route would be the Basic hosting plan or the Business hosting plan.  Then, later on down the road, if you outgrew the resource limitation there, then it might be time to start looking at VPS

Point is, Lunarpages has your hosting needs covered - no matter how small or big you are.  Thumbs Up
