I am planning to set up an e-commerce web site. "E-commerce templates" sells a template that includes pretty much all I need which includes a shopping card, ASPS shipping calculation, database... I need to make a choice though: I can choose between Windows ASP/Access database OR Unix-Linux PHP/mySQL database version. Which one should I choose to work with Lunarpages? If I have to go with PHP/mySQL, can I work on it through my Windows Me set-up?

My second question is: Since this template comes with the ready shopping-cart, do I still have to purchase the Lunarpages Premium program? Or will I be able to access my already ready shopping-cart through the standard plan?

"Unix-Linux PHP/mySQL database version" is the one you need.

Linux is the operating system Lunarpages servers run. mySQL is the type of database we use.

You asked whether it would work with your Windows ME setup.

The operating system you use at home (windows ME) doesn't make any difference.

Where they asked you to choose between Windows ASP/Access database OR Unix-Linux PHP/mySQL database version, they were talking about the operating system that the webhost (lunarpages) is running, what you have at home isn't important in this case.

If you install the "E-commerce templates" yourself, manually, you do not need the premium plan. It might be quite difficult, especially if you haven't done this kind of thing before.

The premium package comes with shopping carts installed so that you don't have to go through the hassle of installing it yourself.

If you can install it, or find someone to do it for you, it will be fine on the standard plan.

Thank you very much for your answer. I must admit that this is the most clear answer I ever received for a question. I think I'll try the standard plan and work on it a little to see if I can figure out the shopping cart. The template site gives instructions on what to do. It says that I would pretty much have to replace the items they already put in there. If I can't make it work, I'll upgrade to the premium plan. Thanks again.

How hard is it to install .php packages that I find from hotscripts on the server?

I'm thinkin hard because i've seen that answer all over the board....but im comfortable tring...so I was wondering if there is a guide to installing scprits/programs?

For example...
Lets say I want to install GeekLog (similar to Nuke I believe)
How would i do that?

Additionally...a MySql question...
Can I use the one database for several scripts/programs?

Lets say....a chat system, a review system, discussion board.

Just incase I case use the ones supplied...

Thanks in advance!

follow the directions.  geeklog installation instructions seem pretty straight forward.  movable type is supposedly the most difficult blog system to install and i got it running rather quickly.

it's possible as long you don't overlap fields.

Well so now I know it CAN be done...
Just a matter of doing it?

There are no instructions from Lunarpages?
I mean I have no idea how i would even upload these programs? FTP or the admin console?

I'm still a bit confused :-)
