When I read about the "Basic Plan" it states that..

Bandwidth per Month..........Unlimited
Storage..................................Unlimited

While the best dedicated hosting plan "Dedicated IV (Mega)" says..

Bandwidth per Month..........4000 GB Bandwidth
Storage................................4 x 400 GB SATA Hard Drives

So my question is? Why does the basic plan say unlimited? Is it truely unlimited, as in I could put a terabyte of information on that plan, and also have 10 terabytes per month without any problems?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reason why I'm asking is because I was considering using a basic plan until my site gets more popular, which at that point I would need a lot more power. But, I also know full well that it would take a bit of time getting to that point and I don't want to have a huge dent on my pocket book with all this extra power not being used if I were to choose a mega plan in the beginning.

I'm looking at running a funny video and picture site with using the http://www.adultvideoscript.com (My site WILL NOT be adult, just using the site engine). It says I need..

          o open_basedir off
          o max_execution_time 7200
          o max_input_time 7200
          o memory_limit (with 1MB more then the maximum video upload size)
          o post_max_size (maximum video upload size)
          o upload_max_size (maximum video upload size)
          o exec() should be allowed
    * PHP CLI 5.x (see above + register_argc_argv ON)
    * Mencoder 1.0rc1 (support for jpeg, gif, png, freetype, h264, lame, xvid, mad, win32codecs, dv, 3gp, mp4, theora)

It's a game that most, if not all, hosting companies play. There's always a limit somewhere. In LP's case (Basic Plan), you can't exceed 1% of CPU usage on a sustained basis. A brief blip over 1% won't cause trouble, but a spike to 30%, or running all day at 3%, will get you suspended. Also, all your data must be "website related" (you can't back up your PC to your website, for example, and LP won't even let you keep multiple generations of site backups). If you can actually store  a terabyte of site-related data, and push 10TB a month across the wires, without exceeding 1% of the CPU -- what magic are you using?

If a hosting company doesn't scream "UNLIMITED" in its ads, it won't get any customers.

Some of your requirements, particularly the multimedia stuff, may be a problem (not allowed, or not installed on all servers). Be sure to discuss the specifics with support before committing.

That's understandable. I've never run site that includes videos (as well as pictures, it's about 50/50) as it's primary premise and I'm wondering just how much CPU a few people running a video at the same time would eat up. I don't plan on having a site with more than 100 viewers per day at the start, since I want to look at this realistically, I don't want to have to fork over a bunch of money for horsepower that I won't be using, figuratively speaking. So I was hoping that I could start with a basic hosting plan, then when I start noticing it actually getting visitors that I would then increase the plan to dedicated (once it starts generating income from ads and such).

As for the technical specs behind that software, I'm sure that some of it would work, I'm just wondering about the rest of it.
