I am interested in transferring my eCommerce Web Site to LunarPages for hosting but I do have a couple of questions I'd like to ask first.  I would like to thank you in advance for your time in responding to my inquiry.

1.  How exactly do the SSL Secure Certificate Work with the "Premium Plan"?  Is it a certificate shared by all Premium Plan members or is it a seperate certificate for each individual plan member.  Also, when my customers are connecting to secure pages, would they see HTTPS://www.navodyne.ca/blahblahblah or would they see HTTPS://www.lunarpages.com/navodyne/blahblahblah .  Please explain to me how it works... I was unable to find any information on the web site and need to know if it is more advantageous for me to use your SSL certificate or to purchase one of my own from Thawte, Verisign or GeoTrust.

2.  Are their any advantages to subscribing to a Dedicated IP address?  If people are always connecting to my web site via www.navodyne.ca does the IP address need to be a dedicated one?

3. My site is written entirely in ASP and uses the Comersus Shopping Cart (www.comersus.com) meant for a Windows based operating system using an Access or mySQL Database.  While Comersus claims that the site will work with ChiliSoftASP, they add that it has been untested by them so there are no guarantees that it will work.  It does work with mySQL no problem, but maybe not ChiliSoftASP.

I am wondering... what happens if I choose LunarPages as my hosting provider and find out that my site does not work with ChiliSoftASP?  I really do not want to switch to a new cart (say Agora) for I already have this one setup the way I want and to have to start over with a new cart would probably kill me!  "[frown]"   Does LunarPages have some sort of Money Back Guarantee if I find my site will not work with ChiliSoftASP?

I think that is all the questions I have for now.  Again, thank you for your time.

Navodyne, I'll be VERY interested to know if you get comersus to work here.  I'm currently looking into just such an option and would love to know if it works for you.  If you get the chance could you let me know if it does in fact work out for you?

Thanks!

No problem!  I talked to the people at Comersus and this is what they had to say when I asked them if it would work:

quote:
Yes, we have made some installation under Chilisoft and it works. Anyway we recommend Windows Server at this time since Comersus was designed to run in a Windows server.

So I don't know if that means, "Yeah, it worked but Windows is better" or if they really don't know if it worked or not and they are just saying it does.   I think I am still going to go with LunarPages and take my chances!  It's such a popular cart so you'd think they would have a version that works with Linux/Unix and/or PHP scripting.

Now it will be interesting to see if Comersus still works after the DB has been converted to MySQL.

It should still work without a problem because Comersus does support (and highly recommends) mySQL or SQLserver.  I even have scripts to setup my database for me and even add the information into the appropriate tables to limit the amount of manual work I would have to do in setting up the database.  I tested these scripts through the Demo of LunarPages Control Panel demo and it worked fune.  The question is whether or not the ASP scripts (designed for a Windows operating system) will work with ChiliSoftASP or not.  That's my biggest problem.  If I can get confirmation somehow that it will work, I will sign up right away and go from there.  I really don't want to have to design a brand new store with some other shopping cart software.  That would suck.  All my time spent thus far would be wasted.

I know you get SSL with the premium plan, but I haven't tried it myself. I don't know the details.

Secure webpages always start with https://

I don't think there are any advantages to getting a dedicated IP address. It is an option, at $2.50 a month, but I can't see much of a need for it.

You don't need your own unique IP address to have a domain name. Domain names from lunarpages are $14.95 per year.

There is a 30 day money back guarantee on lunarpages (terms and conditions apply, read them before you sign up!). The full details are on www.lunarpages.com on the front page.

As Comersus said "Yes, we have made some installation under Chilisoft and it works. Anyway we recommend Windows Server at this time since Comersus was designed to run in a Windows server.", it should be ok.

The advantage of Linux servers over Windows servers is the better reliablity and security.

Thanks for answering my questions.  I just need further clarification on this:

Secure webpages always start with https://
I understand that all secure pages start with HTTPS but what I would like to know is with the shared SSL, does the customer see my domain name in the browser address field or the address of LunarPages.  Not that it really matters but I would like to know! :-).

I don't know.

You'd have to e-mail support@lunarpages.com

Unfortunately, I'm not up to date on Lunarpages' SSL  "[Frown]"

My understanding is you can share the lunarpages certificate with even the standard plan.  The URL would be "https://server.lunarpages.com/~user."  If you plan to share LP's certificate and don't need the other premium features, you don't need the premium plan.  One reason to get the premium plan is so you can have "https://yourdomain.com," but on top of the higher premium plan rates you have to obtain (and pay for) your own certificate directly from a certificate issuer.  Email support if you need the above confirmed.

Thanks everyone for your help.  I did E-mail Support a short while ago and am awaiting their response.  I just can't believe that an SSL Certificate from someone like Verisign or Thawte can be so expensive! For someone just starting a business, every dollar counts so I constantly have to weight cost versus need and right now, a shared certificate would suit my need for the minimal increase in cost.  At least until I generate enough income to support my own certificate!
