I got 620KB/s download from OH, USA with a 7MB cable cable speed, not bad at all. Thinking of a new host here... Oh I forgot to introduce myself... nice to meet you all!

This is very sad. I'd really like to move from "Brand X" webhosting, but I noticed that the lunarpages.com homepage takes as much as 7 minutes to load. So I did this download speed test. My results: 135kps for both the 1mb and the 10mb files. That's both with and without NAV turned off. Now here's the kicker: my broadband download speed just tested at 17,700 kps (speedtest.net). The rest of my www goes flashing by. This is the only site I've been to in years that's this slow. I can ping lunarpages.com at <45ms. But loading any pages from this domain is like being back in the old 1200 baud days. Anybody have any ideas what might be going on here?

I was considering switching another of my websites to Lunarpages. I have one very small site with Lunar now and it works fine. But I have a more important site on another host that I was considering moving to lunarpages.
So, I downloaded this test file. It never got more than 50Kb/sec. So, I uploaded the same file to my other host and to my own lunarpages account's server. My lunarpages server account did the same speed; around 50Kb/sec. However, the download speed on my other host was 300Kb/sec. I conducted the test several times on each host; each with the same results.
Lunarpages is Slow. 4 times slower! I think Ill leave my other account where it is.

Very weird cwrig, you might give it a few days and then try again. You might have some ISP connection issues slowing things down for you in the middle. Test file is coming in really quick here - all the way from lunar-central to Texas. * Update - with the 100MB file I am getting right now around 150 - 175 KB/sec

How could it possibly be my ISP when I am testing the same file to from different hosts FROM the same ISP?
Ive tried it several times today, as I mentioned with the same results (within a few K of each other). Ill try again tomorrow to see if lunarpages imporves any.
Where is your datacenter located? Im am testing from East Coast of USA. Curt

As noted earlier, right now with the 100MB file I am getting right now around 150 - 175 KB/sec (with my quick Firefox test) I believe that server the download is being served from is in one of our California data centers. We have servers in both California and Nevada.

With 175KB or so being the peak - the second one was maybe 20KB faster right now -wasn't too much difference though.

Interesting how results can be so different depending on who is testing. I'll try tomorrow and see what happens.
Thanks for trying my test.

Checked back today; Lunar pages is now as fast as my other host. I dont know why it was slow for those couple weeks I was testing. But today it is fast.
