Hi,

I am currently the web master for a small non-profit organization.  We need to find a new hosting service because our current web host is shutting down soon. I’ve received several favorable recommendations for Lunarpages from other web masters and I plan to recommend to our board that we transfer our site to LP.  I have no reason to believe that they will object to this move.  This should happen in the next few weeks.  I’m not the original developer of our site and my web site maintenance experience is fairly limited, so you should regard me as a newbie.

I’d be most grateful for some pointers on how to migrate our site content and also to set up some new features.

1.   We maintain several mailing lists using Mailman v. 2.1.5.  We have several years of list archives we’d like to keep.  Anywhere I can go to learn how to do this?

2.   We have a webmail interface using Squirrelmail.  Again, we have several years of mail archives, including attachments, that we would like to keep.  Anywhere I can go to see how to do this?

3.   I’d like to set up a bulletin board (probably using PHPBB) for our members accessible only through a password-protected directory (or subdomain) to keep out the trolls and spiders.  Got pointers on how to do this?  BTW, I see your bulletin board uses SMF, not PHPBB.  I am assuming you think SMF is better.  Why?

TIA for your help!

Happy to hear you are interested in our services.  I would check with your current web host to see if they offer a way to easily export the mailing list setting and archives, then we will check and see how easy that might be to import back in.  With e-mail accounts, the easiest thing to do would be to setup a desktop e-mail application and have it download all of your e-mail from the server.  Then, once your new e-mail account was setup and active, you could send to yourself all the mail you wish to store in the webmail account.

We can work with phpBB or SMF, the decision is yours.  You might want to check out their profile pages here:

Hope that helps some!
