Have any of you had bad experiences with Lunarpages?  I am in the middle of picking a new web host, and I am trying to avoid the same pitfalls I've had with previous hosts.  I would love to hear from users who can give me feedback.

I have just recently switched to LunarPages and went through the same thing you are going though right now!  Should I use LunarPages?  What happens if it doesn't work out?  Will I get my money back?  What about all that wasted time?  All that stuff!!!  "[Wink]"

I have read almost every message in this forum and I can honestly say that the general consensus is that LunarPages is a great place to host an ASP, PHP, or JS website.  The back end functions are very easy to understand; setting and administering a mySQL database is a whiz using phpMyAdmin.  Honestly, any problems I have seen people post about have been resolved in a quick efficient timely matter.

I was skeptical like you and it actually took me about a month to decide whether or not I wanted to switch.  There was nothing wrong with my old hosting provider but I wanted more features for the price I was paying and I found them here!

Oh yeah... if my 2 cents here aren't enough?  I'm from Alberta, Canada and am paying the Exchange Rate to be here.  $22.95 (premium plan) in USD is equal to $36.05 CAD for me!  "[Smile]"   And oddly enough, I'm okay with that!

My advise to you?  If LunarPages has the features and capabilities you need to suit your needs?  Then go for it!  I did and so far so good!

Again, my 2 cents worth!

Well, there could be many things that go wrong (with any web host), but LunarPages #1 strength is their customer service... they will do everything they can do resolve problems that come up.  In my opinion, that is a really great quality to have in a hosting company.  Really sets them apart from most others in the same $$ range.

Just FYI, I set up a tracking service to keep track of up/down times on some of our sites.
Our site on Lunarpages had less than one minute total downtime.

Customer satisfaction is very important here.

If you have any queries/problems, we are all here to help.

Unsatisfied customers can spread bad publicity very quickly!

If the customer service was bad, there would be no customers left, i.e. no lunarpages.com!

I have a follow-up question, and I didn't quite think it would warrant it's own thread.

I am currently with Dreamhost, and I've decided to give Lunarpages a try. I truly want to minimize the downtime on my web sites (I currently have the domain name milwaukeeweb.net).

Is it possible for me to place my html files and graphics online at Lunarpages and then move my domain name?  I'd really like to get copies of everything FTP'd to the Lunarpages servers so the switch will be as quick as possible.

yes, once your account is activated you'll be able to upload to your account.  you'll have an address with a lunarpages root to view your site.  when your dns changes update,  you'll then be able to use your domain name.

uww53190,

The best thing to do is ask as many questions, pertaining to anything you plan to do on your site, be it cgi or Frontapge or mySQL.

I'm looking for a new host myself since the current one I'm using is not being nice and placing restictions on the user's mySQL.  Right now I'm down to 3 hosts, and deciding which one would be the best to host my mboards without turning around in 4 months and placing restrictions.
