Howdy,

I believe there is another Stephan on here, my brethren, so perhaps he can answer these tid-bits for me... or anyone else for that matter  "[Smile]"

I see a lot of posts with the same question, but the lingo is muddled and confused:

1)  Can I do a DIR alias?  Ex: www.mymomsplace.com, then I register www.mydadsplace.com   I want mydadsplace.com to point to the folder:  "http://www.mymomsplace.com/mydadsplace"

I know I can do 15 subdomains (this.that.com) etc... but that's not what I am asking.

How much does DIR aliasing cost?

2)  How is the mail server?  Do you know what server is being run, are there good spam filters?  Is it possible to filter my mail server with something like bl.spamcop.net?

3)  Anyone have any experience running quicktime files off this host?  I plan to do a few of them!

that's all for now

thanks all

Okay, I'm being post happy today, and I think I can answer a couple of your questions.

First, what you are asking for, is a domain redirect.  I know from when I registered by 2nd website that I could have it " redirected " to my first.  I do not know if you can have it pointed at a subdirectory in the website though... I wouldn't think that it would be a problem.
This is who I use for my domain name:  http://www.networksolutions.com/
And they charge $12.00 / yr. to do it.

But I'm sure that the people here at Lunar would be more than happy to set it up for you.   "[eyeroll]"

As for the mail server.  I haven't had any real problems with it... and I send about 20 emails a day on average.  They also have thier own " spam assassin " built into the control panel.

As for quicktime files.... sorry, haven't done that yet
  "[Razz]"

Take care,
~Tiger~

Hi,

You are the first Stephan spelt this way I have talked to!

My name is not Steven, as some people think, it's Stephan, with an "a", which is quite rare, or so I thought!

Anyway, your questions...

You can point domains to seperate directories for the fee of $2.50 per domain per month.

So, you would have www.yourdomain.com being your main site,

then buy seconddomain.com which would actually be www.yourdomain.com/seconddomain/

Users wouldn't be able to tell, www.seconddomain.com would appear in the browser.
This doesn't use frames by the way, it's done the proper way!

The mail server runs "Exim".

Spamassassin is provided - http://spamassassin.org/

It will mark spam for you, so you can setup a filter to delete it/move it into a spam folder so you can read it, check it's not spam, then delete it.

Spam filters can be set up from your control panel.

Quicktime files will work, and stream over the http protocol. It works pretty well, I've tried it before.

Thanks for all the info!  Seems like a great location to house all of my web work.  Now one final question:  if my domain and domain aliases are already being hosted somewhere else, along with my smtp and POP servers, what is the best way to migrate hosts with as little downtime as possible?

thanks

Just change the nameservers to the lunarpages ones listed on the FAQ page of www.lunarpages.com

Copy your existing websites to the lunarpages servers then wait for the DNS settings to change.

You should disable forums and stuff like that, so that the two copies don't get out of sync.

E-mail billing@lunarpages.com to get the domains pointing to different directories sorted out.

Hi

This is what I am doing at the moment. Just sign up at lunar, upload all the files to the public_html folder. Make all the necessary settings (parking additional domains, maybe some redirects, subdomains, whatever...).

Then go to the registrar that holds your domain names, and change the nameservers to the ones that Lunar gives you (and do all other settings you find necessary). Then just wait. Once the new DNSs propagate your site will be redirected from the old host straight to Lunar. This means an absolutely seamless transfer with no downtime.

It's weird, a guy names Stephan, like me... and then a guy from Warsaw, Poland, the place where I was born... it's like destiny!
