Hi,

I'm a web-developer, using a Basic plan (and quite happy with it) for a few years now, hosting less than 10 domains / websites... and I have a few question about the Reseller plans :

At first I was looking for a more powerfull hosting plan because I have sometimes lags in pages loading with the Basic plan... Then, I have been interested by the VPS, but it looks like too much complicated to manage for me (excepting by buying CPanel that makes the plan too expensive for me).
Then comes the Reseller plan ? The Holly missing link between Basic and VPS ?
At first sight the Reseller plans were looking promising, but after reading specs in details, I don't see the real difference between it and the Basic, excepting that it is just more expensive and more limited in disk space / bandwidth...
 Confused

==> So here is my question : what do I miss, and how would a reseller plan be more efficient / fast than a basic plan ?  I other words, do you have some arguments convincing me to upgrade to a reseller plan as long as I'm essentially looking for things like more power and fast web pages display... ?

Thank you for your support !!

JB

I am guessing you are talking about our new Webmaster Reseller hosting plan, correct?  Thumbs Up

http://www.lunarpages.com/reseller-webmaster/

Resource-wise, I would say it shares more in common with the VPS hosting setup, rather than the standard shared hosting plans.  The idea here is you purchase a large chunk of hosting, then you have full control over how it is divided up.  You can then host a number of sites you own from it, resell the space to others, giving the space away to others, ect - it is a great open ended middle of the road platform.

To learn more, you might check out this post from this month's web hosting newsletter:

Hi Mitch,

You bet ! Indeed I wrote this post after reading your newsletter article about Webmaster Reseller hosting plan.
I'm glad to learn that it's a plan based more on the VPS side than on the Basic plan side... Because I was looking for a VPS-like plan without all the server management pain ;-)

But, can I ask for a new question related to this post : I found absolutely nowhere any kind of information regarding the computers / CPU / Memory / Bandwidth connection etc... It vould be interesting to know for example (I will say dummy things)  that basic plans share 1000+ accounts on a Pentium III with 2 GB memory etc. And for that the Reseller plan we are 100+ users sharing  the same machine but with a higher bandwidth...

This would make things easier to understand, for me at least   Yep

Could you also tell me about the server techs installed in the webmaster reselling plan ? especially Apache, PHP and MySQL versions...

Anyway, thank you for your answer, I need to think seriously about changing hosting plan !

Server statistics should pretty much mirror the shared hosting plan servers (the same used for Basic, Business hosting plans).  As far as server resources, that might vary between server to server, depending on the needs of the people hosted on that specific machine.
