i think LP uses ecommerce for like shopping from your website right?  and also how well would this work for like hosting a t-shirt website.  just posting diff. t-shirt designs, having ppl add what they wanted to their shopping cart and then purchase.  (for purchasing would i use like paypal, would that be best maybe)

just trying to get an idea of how that would work and how to do it best.

thx

Hi leland_7,

An e-commerce site requires several components:

- a shopping cart/checkout system
- a merchant account for placement of funds after doing transactions & a payment gateway for credit card processing
- an SSL certificate for secure transactions

If you go with PayPal, I believe they can actually take care of all of these with providing their own shopping cart utility, payment gateway and account, and they have the transactions secured on their end.  Thus, if you decided to go with them instead, you would want to see what they do provide first, but it may reduce the number of components to configure yourself.  The shopping cart options, however, may be more limited.  I do know users that have PayPal on their sites for a PayPal shopping cart/payment system and are very happy with using it.

I hope this helps.

Hi leland_7,

We do have each of these, but the shopping carts are only supported on the Voyager plan (you can still install in Cpanel on the Shuttle plan but we would not provide assistance with them at all on Shuttle).  You have 3 shopping carts available:

osCommerce ( www.oscommerce.com ) - PHP
CubeCart ( www.cubecart.com ) - PHP
Agora ( www.agoracart.com ) - perl

As for the merchant account/payment gateway, we partner with Authorize.net and you can contact us for paperwork on using them.

Finally, the SSL certificate you use is based on the plan you have (Voyager or Shuttle) and the language of the shopping cart you would be using.  The shared SSL cert that comes with the Voyager plan only works on html and cgi or perl pages, it will not work on ASP, JSP, or PHP ones.

If you want to use any of those languages such as PHP, you would need to purchase a personal SSL certificate, which you can purchase from a 3rd party vendor or from us.  Our personal SSL certificates are either $49 or $69 per year based on the amount of coverage you would like to have.   The $49 cert covers purchases up to $50 and the $69 one covers purchases up to $2,500.  The $69 cert will also include the Trust Logo.  Both certs are purchased from Comodo.  Regardless of which type of personal cert you purchase (3rd party, $49 or $69 from us), there will be a one-time installation fee of $24.95.

A personal SSL cert requires a dedicated IP, and a dedicated IP costs $2.50 per month paid in a lump sum for your contract term.

Thus, this is why I noted going the PayPal route might be more what you are looking for unless you have a preexisting cart or need to brand the cart to your site instead as the costs and time you will spend will be higher.  If you do wish to purchase the SSL certificate and have one on your account as well as getting the details for Authorize.net, please email us at support@lunarpages.com and we can assist further.

Thanks.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am intensly shopping around for a e-commerce hosting plan which best suits the needs of my new community oriented website. It is critical that my subscribers have the ability to submit forms,  take polls, chat, and discuss on an on-site forum discussion board.  It is equally critical that your plans offer my webmaster the tools to conduct a marketing campaign, create and list forms, create and list polls, and create an on-site discussion board where registered users of my site can post and discuss topics?
Does the shopping cart you support have the ability to take monthly subscriptions, as well as individual purchases of both Electronic Soft-goods Downloadable (ESD) merchandise such as image templates, and typical hard-line merchandise, adjusted by a real time rate shipping and handling calculator?  I am also in search for a user interface that would allow my customers to submit via upload image files to my site for display and download by other members?
How well does your service fit my needs.

Thank You,

John

Tristan you had really given a very good information about that. I like that is true. Pay-pal is very good option and it is I think the most trusted today and it will be good to use in online stores.  I got a very good knowledge from this. Good work done by you. I like it.

I also use PayPal in my online because nearly everyone is using it to buy things online, plus it works faster than CC payments and the fees are lower. Smile

paypal is great, but they don't protect much seller from fraudulent charge-backs and claims Doh, in this matter Moneybookers is much more reliable, at least you know that buyer cannot that easily claim money back, he must have a valid reason to convince MB to get money back  Applause

I've had experiences with Paypal and Moneybookers. Paypal is great for the consumer but terrible for start-up businesses as they can easily hold onto your money for weeks at a time in cases of buyer disputes. Moneybookers is solid and i've never had any problems with them.
