Ok, so there really is no way you can offer unlimited everything to everyone and you have to have a desired cap per user. What is the 'safe' amount for each user? The limit you reach before you'll suspend an account for overusage. Bandwidth? Storage? etc.

Bandwidth and storage are unlimited. Please be aware that all files on the account must be used for your websites and cannot simply be stored there. Please be aware that larger accounts are harder for users to manage, keep all scripts up to date, move if necessary, and can lead to higher resource usage for cpu, memory, and mysql. You may not use so much of those resources that you cause the server to become unstable for everyone else.

"Unlimited" is just a sales gimmick. Everyone does it, not just LP. In practice you'll exceed 1% CPU usage (or a larger amount for a shorter time) and then you'll be sent off until you've reduced usage. That's long before you start using excessive amounts of bandwidth or storage, and why you can't host Google on an LP shared server. Unfortunately, LP refuses to give you any means of monitoring your CPU usage, or even warn you when you're close to the limit. That information obviously exists, but is not shared with customers. Apparently the business model is to catch you using too much, and pressure you to upgrade to VPS or Dedicated (more $$).

There is no such "business model" here. We do have many very large sites that do not have issues and work fine. Google is the sort of site that should only be run on a dedicated server no matter who their webhost is due to the amount of traffic they get. Lunarpages is not refusing to provide the info, we simply have no way to do that at this time. Yes, if you go over, an upgrade to VPS or dedicated is offered as one solution to the issue and it is only a suggestion provided along with several others as a courtesy to our customers who may not know we provide those or whose sites have become very successful, popular, or more script intensive thus needing more resources and perhaps it is time to upgrade. Lunarpages is not trying to "catch" anyone. We are merely trying to keep all servers stable for all the other customers who share the server with you.

There is no "catch."  Just some incredibly threatening e-mails saying they will shut down your site.

So, if they've stated that it's unlimited, you might ask "What's the big deal? It's clearly unlimited!"  Well, not so fast!  Sprint has been known to throw this "unlimited" term out when defending describing their $10 Premium Data add-on charge.  Why would they do that?  See, the way that advertising basically works is you throw a whole bunch of *edited*to the wall and see what sticks.  For the advertiser the hope is that most people won't inquire about the terminology and will simply purchase the product.  (Ever see that *mouseprint at the bottom of ANY advertisement
