I am already using lunarpages basic hosting.

I am looking for a second hosting plan,as I have been asked to build a new site for a baseball association..... which is no big deal, but

what has me worried is that for a 2 week period every year  this website will get hit with about 80,000 hits per day.(this is what the current site gets for this 2 week period ...yearly)

ok so a basic plan would  handle the impending blogsite for the rest of the year it will have about 200+ members ...(currently the site is a static site, off season getting about 350 hits per day on average) the new site will be a blog style so will see more activity.

which plan is best for me,I have been looking at the linux vps I think it was 49.95 per month 512 mb memory.

things I require as a volunteer: doing this site

linux with apache and cpanel...unless someone can convince me that LPCP is as good ...my main concern here is one klik fantastico installation of word press and any other software required....I do not want to learn another server panel if I can help it

the server doesnt crash in this 2 week period with that much traffic

questions...
can a starter plan be upgraded for a month during this heavy traffic time? say from vps starter to pro.....or ?

is there anything different in using a vps server to the basic plan I am using now?

do I need VPS?  will a buisiness plan work for this situation?

any and all opinions will be appreciated.

I need to decide and figure this out ASAP to get to work on the new site

steve

Could you give us more information on what type of scripts and services will be installed, what type of server side tech you might need (such as databases) and as much detail as you can about the back end of things?  It is hard to judge performance by hits alone.  A static image could take X number of hits all day long, however a processor hungry script that is using two or three databases would be able to take less.

I have no clue which scripts , services , databases, have been used in the past nor which I will need in the future......due to lack of experience on my part

the 80,000 hits per day is people refreshing the site looking at scores and scheduling from baseball tournaments....5 tourneys in total running concurrently, people also peruse around the site mostly in the photo galleries....to a layman...me ,It doesnt seem as though it would be that server intensive ....but that is why I am asking here.

I guess my fear is that I was told the system crashed in the past ,currently the site is on a private, self hosted, I believe dedicated server (no clue of the specs) ... from a members business ,and probably wouldn't be able to find out, Ill guess that it is quite old  though.

thanks for the help

Well, if cost is a big concern - you might go with one of the lower end plans to start out, and then see how it performs.  The upgrade window, if needed, is always there.  So if shared hosting isn't meeting your needs, you can always upgrade to VPS, if VPS isn't getting the job done, there is always dedicated hosting.    The sites you sent me via PM don't look too complicated, basic HTML pages so I don't see you having many issues from my estimation.

I agree with Mitch. You should upgrade only when you need.

Want to switch your hosting account type? There are a lot of different reasons as to why you may want to switch your hosting plan from one type to another. Maybe you need more disk space? Maybe you need more features? Maybe even your web site has outgrown a shared hosting service, and you need to move to a dedicated hosting plan. Whatever your reason may be we have your plan changes covered.
