Reselling is a way of starting your own business. You work with LunarPages as a reseller to obtain space. In turn you sell web hosting space to customers. You are the web host for those customers.

The advantage to you is that you do not have to have a technical staff to keep servers running, or to manage the hardware part of it all. You can charge whatever you want for web hosting space to your customers. As you gain more customers the cost to you goes down from LunarPages, down to as much as $5 per month.  Details of the reseller plan can be read here.

I hope that helps.

what is the reseller providing that a person can't do for their self by just going to LP's page and creating an account?

when you say the reseller becomes the "web host", what does that entail?

seems like the reseller is profiting off LP's resources by not doing much of anything....

the point is the reseller can make money in the process, the reseller would get discounts the more account he/she purchases, therefore the more accounts you sell on (for your chosen price) the more money you save on buying the accounts, the more money you make.

i understand it as, you buy the accounts from LP, the more you buy, the cheaper the accounts are, then you sell them to who you want, for your chosen price, therefore you make a profit.

The reseller does have to do something, though.  The reseller is responsible for supporting their clients.  We only deal directly with the reseller and questions for issues need to be brought from the reseller to us.  If the reseller sends their clients to us for us to do the support, we will not provide this support as these are not our clients, but the reseller's clients.  You are the webhost in this idea as you are hosting and supporting them, and we are hosting and supporting you (the reseller).

A reseller can offer additional services, or not, as they wish. Yes, the customer could go directly to LP's page and buy an account there - or anywhere else on the net and purchase hosting.  You can set up your reseller package so that your customers are not even aware that LP exists.  As far as they are concerned, you are the company with all the staff and servers, etc.

The downside is that whenever a problem should occur, you are also the first place those customers go to in order to get it resolved.  If you are interested in reselling, it would be to your advantage to find as reliable a host as LunarPages to begin with to minimize this.

From LP's viewpoint, a reseller is a salesman - finding new accounts.  From your customer's viewpoint, you would be providing web hosting services,  just like LP is. From your viewpoint, you have a business that you could build into something quite profitable.  It has the potential of being a win-win situation for everyone involved.

How do we do this? can i integrate it into mywebsite? can my customer change his password and other details without me knowing via the cpanel? do I get notification of this? can my customers use the forum tools etc by themselves?

thanks

yes you can do all this, you can let them login to CPanel via theirdomain.com/cpanel, and when they login they wont know its Lunarpages servers, you can login to all accounts through the resseller control panel without passwords e.t.c. because YOU own the accounts, you can terminate them, you can do what you wish, Lunarpages gives the accounts to you and you resell them
