I'm confused... and without wanting to sound like a whinger, LPs reseller plan is very confusing - it isn't clearly explained well enough. So here are my questions...
1. Does my current domain name have to be registered with LP for me to be a reseller?
2. Can I host my domain name with another company and yet still have a reselling account with LP?
3. If i can host my domain name with another company and yet still have a reselling account with LP, how the hell do I start the process?
4. Do I need to 'register' before I resell a plan? How do i register? how the hell do I start the process?
5. Can I fill in all the details of a customer myself so that their domain name is hosted through my reseller account? how the hell do I start the process?

I'm just too confused... this is what i want....

I want to keep my current domain name with my current registrar
I want to keep my current host
I MIGHT want to change my host to LP
If so, can I make myself my first reseller customer?
If I have to manually register my customers domains then I suppose I would need to worry about handling their credit card details and passwords etc.
How do I set up my website so that my customers dont need me to intervene? I MIGHT want to be able to do this...

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. It's just all a bit too overwhelming so far

1) no you could have your domain hosted anywhere.

2) yes

3) you have to sign up for a reseller account, you can sign up here, you need to purchase atleast one account on the resseller plan.

4) same as above

5) you can register your customers account yourself, the way the resseller plan works is, you buy the accounts, and as far as LP is concerned you are the account holder, you can then resell this space to customers, you are responsible for charging YOUR customers, Lunarpages will charge you only.

6) yes you can have your first resseller account as yourself if you wish

7) you wouldn't need to handle your customers credit card details e.t.c. because Lunarpages will charge you for the hosting and the domains that you buy through them, and you are responsible for charging the customer, you can charge your customer how much/how frequently you want

Gleam i'm not sure, as you have to get the acounts from Lunarpages not your customers.

i hope this helps, if you would like me to elaborate on anything or if you have any more queries please dont hesitate to reply here.

Thanks. Have a great day.

Thanks so much, i think i'm beginning to understand!!

in regard to 7)..
So are you saying I have to register my customer's details, passwords and preferences etc... if not how do they do it without knowing its really LP hosting their site and not me? I want them to believe that i am effectively hosting there domain.

"How do I set up my website so that my customers dont need me to intervene? I MIGHT want to be able to do this..."
this sort of is the same as the first question.

thanks again

you could have them call you, mail you, however you want, they order an account from you, then you turn to LP and say 'hey i want another account adding to my reseller plan', you set it up in the control panel Lunarpages provides for you, and then you bill the customer, the customer need never know you have an relation to Lunarpages, nor know they exist, there is no way for the customer to find out you are using LP's servers over a server you have yourself unless you tell them.

How do I resell/host a .com.au domain name? when I went to that link and nominated existing domain only a hand full of options came up, and no allowance for .au names? whats the deal there?

Now i'm feeling fat and depressed again

if you are after a new .com.au domain then you must register it somewhere else and have Lunarpages transfer it to them for you, as Lunarpages cannot register .com.au at this time

however if this is an existing domain then you can just e-mail sales@lunarpages.com after or when you are signing up for your account and they can transfer it to lunarpages/your account for you.

That doesn't make sense? how can i register a domain name elsewhere then "have Lunarpages transfer it to them for you"Huh I'm not quite sure what you're meaning?

At the end of the day, i want to register .com/.com.au names from my own source and then have them hosted with LP. As they will all be existing domains do i need to email LP each time I want to resell a hosting plan to one of my customers? if this is the case then what?

keeping up James? Smile

you would email LP and ask them to add another account to your allowance, you can then go into your resseller control panel and create the acocunt with the domain you want (whether or not it is hosted at LP or not), the next step would be pointing your domain to the account nameservers so that it works.

did i miss anything?
