Second RoR app kept getting a 500 error
« on: August 29, 2008, 03:08:51 PM »
Hi everyone,

I need to create a second Ruby on Rails application on my site. I've done everything listed in the tutorial (http://rubyonrailswebhosting.lunarpages.com/), but the second app kept getting a 500 error. I get no log in rails log file, but a fastcgi crash log as follow:

[28/Aug/2008:15:42:03 :: 18273] Dispatcher failed to catch: You have a nil object when you didn't expect it!
You might have expected an instance of Array.
The error occurred while evaluating nil.split (NoMethodError)
  /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.8/cgi.rb:897:in `parse'
  /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/actionpack-1.13.3/lib/action_controller/cgi_ext/raw_post_data_fix.rb:45:in `initialize_query'
  /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.8/cgi.rb:2273:in `initialize'

  /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/fcgi-0.8.7/lib/fcgi.rb:606:in `each_cgi'

  /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rails-1.2.3/lib/fcgi_handler.rb:55:in `process!'
  /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rails-1.2.3/lib/fcgi_handler.rb:25:in `process!'
  ./dispatch.fcgi:28
killed by this error

What I did for the second app:

1) Uploaded the whole RoR app (with Rails 2.0.2 frozen in vender folder) folder to /home/lovel12/test
2) Successfully symlinked it to public folder by using  "ln -s /home/lovel12/ff/public /home/lovel12/public_html/ff"
3) Edited .htaccess file in /home/lovel12/ff/public folder
    a) Uncommented "RewriteBase /" and replaced it to "RewriteBase /ff"
    b) Replaced "RewriteRule ^(.*)$ dispatch.cgi [QSA,L]" to "RewriteRule ^(.*)$ dispatch.fcgi [QSA,L]"
4) Changed certain all files of /home/lovel12/ff/tmp, /home/lovel12/ff/log, /home/lovel12/ff/public (folders inclusive) to 777

My first RoR app is still on, and all the settings are the same, I dont understand why the second one cant work.  Please help me get out of this. Many thanks.

Did you ever get your Rails apps working on LunarPages?  I'm struggling to get my first (and only) app working.  I'm guessing it's something about my .htaccess file, but can't figure it out.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
David
