What is pinging?
Just what does it mean to ping your website? Simply put, pinging your site means that you are letting various search engines and directories know that your site exists and has been updated. It is the simplest way to give search engines a nudge in the right direction to index your site. It sends the link of your website to various services so that it can be indexed in many places. It's a simple way to let large search engines such as Google as well as smaller website directories know your site's status and increases your chances of being found in search engines. By pinging your site, you are inviting search engines to crawl your site for new content.

Hello Guys,
Pinging is used to alert the visitors online about the new website. If you do not ping your websites it may not be observed by the internet users. It is just similar to having a gas station in the middle of a jungle where you have no vehicles or customers.

Pinging is informing aggregators about the updates you have done to your site or blog. Around the world wide web there are several content aggregators which are looking for new content. When ever you update your site or added a new post to the blog you will let them know about it by pinging them. It will help to quickly index your changes.

I have observed that some guys are regular ping their links but I think Google bots cat definite catch your back links if your links have quality. Honestly sayting I haven't tried yet but I think quality back links doesn't needs to ping.
