I'd like to put a drop down menu on my home page that links to 30+ other sites (using as a quick jump to some band pages on myspace). Does anyone know if I'd lose PR by doing that or is it no different than if I were to have 30+ regular text links on that same page.

Thanks

This is just an educated guess, but I would think that if the spider can read text that looks like a normal link, it should be able to follow it. At the least, the entry would have to have the http://.... part, and depending on the spider, it might also need the <a> tag around it. If your JavaScript code is taking a list of names or titles and building some kind of link on-the-fly once it's clicked, the spider might not be able to recognize and follow it. The same goes for passing a name string back to the server and on the server doing a PHP header() call or something: the spider can't see it's a link.

Pages put links inside of unordered lists all the time, so I'm guessing that links inside a <select> statement should be OK. Perhaps someone with more SEO experience can comment on this?

I hate drop down menus in navigation, I much prefer single buttons or links. So often I visit site were the drop down navigation is inadvertently activated on mouseover and it interferes with reading of the site. Whenever possible I absolutely avoid drop down navigation.

According to my point of view Drop down menu will not create a problem at all.

I don't know why people are still concerned with PR, it means little these days. I've had PR 3 sites that have much more traffic than a PR7.

I'd be more concerned if it would affect the on page SEO
