I updated my site to include some new things and noticed about a week ago it appeared in the Google rankings. It was for a few days and then I noticed I'm being indexed by the old site. I checked my site on all the Google servers and it was the same...the old one.
So the question is why would all of Google read and rank the new site for a few days and then revert to the old one?? Ideas??

The only thing I could suggest trying would be to make it so that google/search engines can't index your old site, you can find more on that here:

Other than that, I'm honestly not sure...any takers on this?

cheers,

Not sure to tell you the truth but it might have been the weird ranking method that Google did last time it spidered and ranked sites. They tried some different method and it took them a long time to finish it, and now I am not even sure if they used it.

Would this explain why my site showed up for a few days on the Google listing then disapeared?  I can't seem to get my site to stay up on any search engine.

It seems to make sense to me, but I am not certain.

sometimes the indexing is from a few weeks (up to a month) prior to when it finally shows up on their site...so if they did this before you put up the new site, that'd be why...

at least, i think that's right...i've had a little bit of contact with google...not much though...

When the new site revision gets up I'll post it...could be interesting.

Well, the new site was up for most of the day on Google and then it went back to the old one. What was interesting is that I had made changes to the site yesterday and when it showed up in Google today it was cached as the one from yesterday. Now the cache is the old one. All I can figure is that they are in a state of flux...or confusion:)

FYI: I found a forum about Google and from what I can tell Google IS in a state of flux, so my situation is not unique Rolling Eyes

it's the google dance, more than likely, and it sounds like your site is trading partners quite a bit!

Google is dancing weird once again. It's bots are doing some things differently right now and it's driving most webmasters crazy. I heard that the bot that is supposed to go deap into your website and follow more pages on your website than the main page is not really doing that job at most sites. Many sites that the bot looked over good are not being checked deeply enough any longer. I guess we will have to wait and see how this crawling process is going to work.

Well, I hate to post and say everything is great now...because when I do it only lasts a few hours:)

However, it has now been 2 days and things look stable. Everything was indexed right, ranked perfect..even the subdomains. Knock on wood:)
