Hi everyone

A simple question, from a newbie: if my site is getting some amount of hits from google, this will improve my Page Rank? (assuming that all hits are unique visits, or at least most of them)

thanks

Well, it depends. The more hits you get from Google usually means that you are listed fairly well with them, therefore you should have a pretty good page rank. The thing that will help your page rank the most, are incoming links from sites that have PR higher than you.

okay, lets just assume that somebody is using a lame technique in order to get a higer PR. that technique would be to search using google for some keyword (using some proxyies'n'stuff), then he clicks on his own url (his url may appear on the 20th page for example). in this lame way, he can "get" 100 hits per day.
In this way, his website's PR can improve?

I'm not that lame to use this technique, it's time wasted for nothing, but I'm just courious Smile

No, as google does not track how many clicks are made.

If you look at the links, it goes directly to the site being listed. There is no mechanism in place to track the hits, so there is no way for it to adjust your ranking on the number of hits.

Otherwise you would see a lot of programs built to auto-click for that purpose ;-)

Yeah, Kata is right. No problem, just stop by again and ask more questions if you need anything. Smile

related to what I've asked in the first post, I uploaded my website 3 months ago to server, I've submitted it to most of the major serach engines, and after 2 weeks (or something like this) my site was listed in google with the keyword SSHNUKE in the third position ( I have to mention that my website isn't related in any way to warez/crack/hack or other illegal stuff, excepting the url wich is http://xtr.sshnuke.it).
I was receveing about 30 unique hits from google related to sshnuke keyword, and about after a month, I was listed on the 2nd position (guess my PR improved). I'm saying "guess" because in that period I didn't knew about PR, and didn't have the google toolbar installed.
This is why I've asked in my first post if the number of hits can improve the PR.
At this moment, i'm not listed anymore with google due to an absence (my server was offline for about a month), but I still have a PR 4/10.

On the other hand, I've tryied to increase the PR for another website ( http://www.dops.it ), but after 3 months wasn't included in dmoz though I've made several submissions to that directory.

Google doesn't update the Page Rank often. They usually do it every 6 weeks, but that all depends on how highly they think of your website.

DMOZ also doesn't update every category very well. Some editors that are responsible for certain categories are not working anymore and don't feel like adding new sites to it. I have also been submiting like crazy but have not been added yet.
