Can someone tell me how Google "sees" a link?

I used the link below to check a few of my sites that I know link to each other.

http://www.google.com/help/features.html#link

It seems that Google does not recognize that site A has a link to site B and B has a link to A.

Will Google recognize "any link" to another site, or is there a certain format that they want to see in the HTML?

I am using simple links on a page like <a href="www.site.com">www.Site.com</a>

Thanks

What is the Page Rank for the link page(s)?  I am fairly certain that Google only lists pages that link to your site(s) that have a PR of 4 or higher.  If you try a backward link check in AltaVista it should return some of your other links, as AV doesn't do this.

I've heard that putting the "title" parameter in your link tag will help, and the "alt" parameter for image links.  Actually, I am having a problem now, getting Google to list a backward link to one of my sites which is an image (w/o an alt property) on a page that has a high PR.  Anyone else have this problem?

Hope this helps!

Dedmond29 covered a lot of important things. Google will only list links coming to your site if the site linking to you has a page rank of 4 or above. However, that doesn't mean that Google will not give you credit for links coming from site with a lesser PR. Google will simply not list those, but you still get some credit for them.

Also, your links seem to be fine. There might be some things you can do to help them out, but none of those things are going to have any significant effect on your rankings. The higher your PR, the more pages of your site Google will index. You might also have to wait a bit for Google to do a deep crawl if it hasn't done so yet.

Hope that helps a bit. Smile

Can you explain what the PR is and is there a way to check what mine is?  Thanks.

Page Rank is nothing more than a ranking that your site get's based on the amount and quality of the links that it receives. The more links that you have, the more like it is that your website will get a higher PR. Quantity however is not all, the quality of the links matters a lot too. You want to get links from sites that have a pretty good PR, which goes anywhere from 0-10.

To see your page rank, you need to download the Google Toolbar. You can find it at: http://toolbar.google.com/
