Forum posting is good to get traffic and back links. But not much traffic can be expected from forums. Perform social media and social networking activities to get maximum traffic.

Well i think article submissions and forum posting are two main method to get a lot of back links. I generally try to get more and more high PR websites links.

If I'll have to suggest you for Page Rank then It would be "NO" to focus anymore on improving PR for your website.
Earlier Page Rank was a different algorithm by Google which was being considered as a separate algo and was being treated in the same way, but before a few weeks they have updated their algo and have said that PR has been now one of their 200 algorithms for Organic Search Results. Therefore, Its not gonna work in the long term so it better you stop focusing on it.

Get back links from high PR sites is one of the best way for improve back link, you can do this from forum posting, blog commenting, and other submission activities
