I was looking at another game site that I am linking with. The site has a PR of 3. They also, have a visible tracker on the site. They are averaging about 40 uniques per day.

I have 4 to 5 times that traffic with a PR 1. So, just how important is the Google PR and how does it convert to hits, if it does? Is a high PR as important as it is made out to be?

If the first search result is relevant and contains what the user is looking for then why should the user go anywhere else?

This considered I would say page rank is very important indeed.

That's a good point! I was not thinking of it that way.

It would seem though that a higher PR would also, mean more hits?

If your site is the first one on page one of a relevant search more people would visit it? That doesn't seem to be the case.

Could the Google link rating algorythm be flawed?

The reality is the SE does not take into account your site traffic when they evaluate your PR. What they care is how relevant  or important your site is related to the searches by their visitors. They don't care how many visitors are actually going through your site everyday. It is not their job. What they want is to show their visitors relevant and useful search results.

So a higher PR means they "think" your site is more relevant and useful to their visitors.

I do think if your site is ranked number one or two in the relevant searches, more people would visit it. Is it not your experience? And a higher PR could lead your site to higher position than your competing sites in the searches assuming other factors unchanged. So a higher PR theoretically means you are more likely visited by more people driven from search engines. They discovered your site in their search for a particular keyword/keyword phases.

So another important factor is your targeted keywords/keyword phases in your site.
