For the past 12 hours, I have not been able to get Page Rank displayed on my Google Toolbar on any of my computers.  Every page appears with a gray bar.  My Options/Preferences are set correctly.

Are any of you having this problem?  If not, what should I do to get Page Rank displayed?  TIA.

Hi,

I have heard of issues where the Google Toolbar doesn't display PageRank properly.  My best suggestion would be to re-install the Toolbar.  It is usually a quick fix.

You could search on Webmaster World concerning this issue, though, b/c I am certain it has been mentioned there previously.  The address is www.webmasterworld.com  The search terms I would suggest are "google toolbar problems page rank" (w/o quotes).  I think you have to join (which is free) to see posts, but I could be wrong...

I hope this helps.

I had(have) that same problem as well - with a gray PR on the toolbar, and I agree that you can only use the toolbar PR as a general benchmark, because it is not always accurate.  Sometimes some of my pages on my website will switch from gray to white while I am refreshing the page.  Here is an article I read the other day - which has some interesting quotes regarding the toolbar PR information:

http://www.searchenginewatch.com/searchday/article.php/3100291

Definitely worth taking a few minutes to read if you are interested/concerned with search.

Hope this helps!

Hi dedmond29,

Although I am not going to uninstall my Google Toolbar (which is working properly) b/c it provides a bunch more info than just PageRank, I appreciate the link you provided.  On that page, I found a link to the google desktop bar, which I didn't realize had been released.  The desktop bar can be found at http://toolbar.google.com/deskbar/index.html

I installed it, and it is cool as heck.  Thanks again for the post.  Very Happy

Hello - Miraenda - just trying to provide some valuable info - glad it was helpful.
You are probably right that if I uninstall and reinstall the toolbar it will work as well - when I get to my own computer (w/the toolbar) I will do that - and I definitely agree that there is more value to the toolbar than just the PR info.

I like the deskbar too - it's pretty cool, especially for people that are not as comfortable with moving back and forth between different screens.

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions and the interesting article.

The toolbar was and is working, but now I cannot get Page Rank for any site.  The problem is on all of my computers, so the cause is either Google or my connection to them.  I can’t imagine that we violated Google’s TOS, so I may just need to better control my fixation with Page Rank until I get this resolved...

I don't think it's your fault. From what I know, I believe that Google sometimes has some issues with their servers that get the page ranks connected to people's computers. Their servers with the PR information might be down, but usually it is only a matter of minutes before it starts working again. Or at least that's my case.

And yes, the Google deskbar has been out for about two or three weeks from what I know. I read about them releasing it at another forum, but forgot to post it in this forum. Smile

I just read a bit more about the issue, and it might be that Google is updating the PRs of sites or changing some of its methods. Nobody has a definete answer however. Sad

Has anyone noticed how we are all becoming addicted to PRs? Very Happy

And now, the toolbar is working again.  Page Rank is being displayed.  At least my problem inspired some helpful discussion.

Thanks again.
