How many characters are too much for the content/words I choose of these tags?

1.<meta name="Description" content=?Huh

2.<meta name="keywords" content=?Huh

Thanks for the continued help everyone.  I'm in google now but still want to change some things to get the best possible results.

140 characters is the max. limit for description & keywords.

Keep in mind that Google actually ignores these tags. The only major search engines left that use the meta description tag for rankings is Alta Vista and Inktomi.

Yeah, don't worry too much about the meta tags, but get some in just in case. I would add more content to your site in order to help it though. Add some text to the front page so that it's not just images. It won't help people find your homepage with mainly images covering the entry page or the other pages. Wink

if I was to add all the keywords that I would have in my meta data on my frontpage but made the text the same colour as my page, thus making the text invisible, would that work?

Is this what google uses?

Thank!

I would advise strongly against placing invisible text on your page to get higher rankings in Google.  This is one of the big no-nos that can get your pulled off of Google completely.  They consider putting invisible words on your site dishonest since only content on the page should be there for their spider to search.

Additionally, although Google doesn't use the meta tags for placement and spidering, one large company does--Inktomi.  I have a paid Position Technology account that has Inktomi results, and my placement in Inktomi results is 100% based on meta tags.  Since MSN also has uses Inktomi results, I would pay attention to having meta tag information included on my site if you want favorable results beyond just on Google.

I hope this helps.

I agree... don't do it. It might work for a while, but it's not fair. Someone can contact Google and tell them about your unfair competition, and I bet that Google will soon find a way to see these cheaters. If they find you, your site will get banned and no more hits for you from Google. Confused
