I heard that CSS Spirits can help in decreasing the number of HTTP request thus improving the site load time. I tried searching and found lot of information about it... but it was difficult for me to understand

Can someone help in explaining what does CSS Spirits mean.. How can I use it (in simple steps) and how can I apply it to my website to decrease the load time?

why we use CSS is the answer of your question. If we dont use we have to apply line of codes every where on different page which take time show its effect on page. But if we use CSS once it loaded it does not take time and effect every where.

CSS sprites are a way to reduce the HTTP requests made for image resources referenced by your website. CSS sprites are used to store images and reduce the loading time of the website. To use images frequently storing those images in CSS sprite would be more beneficial.
