in 2.5 months, on Google, but my keyword is 'greed' which shows over 1.5 millions entries! So: I reached page 49 on Google, with a page rank of 5? My listing is still a needle lost in a haystack.
2 questions:
(1) Lunarpage's Usage Statistics are beautiful (I think you have the descriptions of the top two reversed? The second one down is the simpler) but they show me more hits than my hit counters. Which is accurate?
(2) Google says its formula for page ranks is complex. It looks for links to other, higher ranking sites. - So, I could be popular and getting a lot of hits/day from the public, but not move up in page rank, because I don't get the nod (a link) from Fortune Magazine?

Actually, Page Rank and Keyword placement are 2 separate issues.

Your keyword placement isn't dependant upon page rank one iota.  Your page rank simply determines other people's page rank when you link to them.  You could be #1 for greed and have a page rank of 3.  If you don't believe me, type in greed in Google and go to the #1 site (which is currently http://hem.passagen.se/mada8981/).  Guess what, they have a PR of 4.

Keyword placement is determined by a whole bunch of different things like how well you designed your pages, how much you repeat key terms, etc.  You will be much better off focusing on how to optimize your site for keyword placement than worrying about PR, since people don't search Google for PR, but they do using terms.

This is just my opinion.  I'm certain someone else can find reasons why I am wrong.

To answer your second question, to improve in PR, if you still want to do that, you would need links from higher ranking sites at a basic level.  I don't understand the complexities of the PR formula, so I can't say what else would do it, but the number of people who visit your site wouldn't affect PR since Google doesn't track page view/visit statistics.

Hope this helps.

So true Miraenda Applause  I think too many people are concentrating on that high pr that they are missing the point. I don't care if I ever get a pr rating as long as I can continue to get ranked #1 for my keywords. PR is a waste of my time...users don't care about pr, only that they can find what they are looking for. So while others are trying to get a high PR, I'm maximizing my sites the most #1 search returns I can get.
