I agree. That's why it's likely I'll just edit his pages, not make new ones.

RickJ, I think you're onto something with your target clientelle. I do a couple of sites non gratis just because I'm associated with the organizations, but I've been asked about doing sites for other non-profit groups who don't want a huge site, but just a contact point. $25-$50 a month seems like a reasonable fee for both parties if you agree to the amount of content and number of revisions every month. You get to practice coding, make a few bucks, and the client gets a product/service they can afford. Everybody goes away happy.

If you can't design an attractive, standards-compliant website using nothing more than Notepad and a decent graphics editor, you need to rethink your approach to web design.

Thank you for the encouragement! I'm finding the hardest part is putting a price on what I will do.
I can slap a few pages up easily enough, but need to clarify things like amount of pics, # of revisions, # of pages, etc.
It's a slow start but a market I think untapped...

Just make sure you get something in writing! Even if it states the terms simply, the billing date and when bills must be paid by - otherwise they can take forever to send it

Hi all, I contacted Rick a few weeks ago and asked if he might be able to help me. Someone else created the masthead and basics of a home page for my new web site, but there were some problems with it (understatement). I had already purchased Dreamweaver, knowing that I would want to be able to update the site myself, and who knows, create another site some time in the future. But for now, my need was to get my site up and running. I tried to fix things in Dreamweaver, but I had only learned enough to make things worse.
So I contacted Rick. He responded to my plea for help with such grace and enthusiasm that I knew right away that I asked the best person for the job.
Here we are a few weeks later, and I can say that Rick did a fantastic job. He was infinitely patient with me, responded to my e-mails right away, and kept his good humor through it all. What he didn't know, he learned.
I am very happy with my site. Of course there is some fine tuning to do (is any web site ever truly finished?), but I have been able to get the word out to my colleagues and some potential clients that my web site is there (and looking good!).
Rick made this a great experience, and I would recommend him to anyone who needs help with creating their web site.

Gosh, all. I'm humbled. Thank you for the kind words. It was a good experience for me, too: I learned a couple new tricks. I must say, though, that you LF folks helped me make it. My last few questions were related to this site. Thank you, as usual, for always being so eager to help us newbies. OK well I already posted for help once, but saw this post and it interested me a bit. I need someone to design web site for me .. I havent purchased FP or Dreamweaver yet because I am noob to this. I need to learn more before I spend the money, since I am on a budget. I just purchased the spring special with lunar pages and ordered the 2 years. I have not messed with quicksite yet. really didnt want to waste my time. How do newbies like me protect their ideas from others ? lol especially if you hire someone, tell them alll your plans and then they go make their own site??? also I have question if you can use the picture gallery for document uploads rather than pics? well maybe rick or someone else out there is in need of some cash and can help me.. btw should I get dreamweaver or frontpage? thanks

Uh, hardcore protection of IP requires lawyers, which requires money, which is why you always see people complaining about how ridiculously the big corps. protect their IP... because they have boatloads of money to make sure they are the only ones using anything remotely similar to all of their stuff. And dreamweaver is far superior, in my opinion.
